Actually, wearing unsanitary masks is what leads to bacterial pneumonia. Most of the people wearing masks are resusing disposable masks, or are not keeping the cloth masks clean. If you wear masks, a disposable mask should not be worn more than 3 or 4 hours before it is disposed of, and replaced. If you are wearing a cloth mask, it shouldn't be worn more than 3 or 4 hours before switching to a clean mask. There are studies that have shown that prolonged mask wearing leads to respiratory illnesses that can exhibit symptoms similar to a viral infection.
