The good news is that I know a fair number of people now that have come through this. A close relative lost his sense of smell and taste, and tested positive. But other than a few days of malaise, he has fully recovered. Worst of all, he was scheduled to get vaccinated the day he lost his sense of taste.
My physical therapist and his family got it and recovered. Even months later, however, he is still easily fatigued. He was a runner so this suggests that the long term effects are serious.
A student last semester and his whole family got it. They were over it in a week. "Like a bad flu."
Another acquaintance got it and said it was not as bad as flu.
Another acquaintance will be on oxygen for the rest of his life. The lung damage was substantial.
For many people this is a few days of misery. For some it is a life changing (and not for the better) experience. For a few percent this is a slow and unpleasant death by asphyxiation.
Stay masked in public. The published work shows it reduces risk of infection. The sooner we get past this, the sooner the Fascists will lose their excuses to oppress us.
Article of faith: Fauci blamed masks for flu deaths in 1918. Here is the paper. There is no mention of masks.

ReplyDelete*Cough* Aha, ha.
It's adorable that you think the newly anointed Glorious Leaders of the Fascist Party of the Democratic Banana Republic of America need an excuse to oppress and murder filthy untermensch like ourselves.
Clayton,
ReplyDeletea hundred years of data (starting with the 1918 Spanish Flu) indicates that masks do not help. According to the CDC (~2008 paper), a majority of deaths from the 1918 flu were actually bacterial pneumonia, a side effect. A paper in 2017, authored by Dr Fauci, states that the bacterial infections were from wearing masks. I'm assuming that was why he first stated that masks were not recommended, back around last March(?) Wonder what made him change his stance on that? I recently tried to find that paper on the site, and couldn't find it. May have been wiped for political reasons, and my OS did a reboot/update before I copied it.
I am not sure if Fauci's paper acually stated that masks were the cause of the bacterial pneumonia, but there are (or rather were) several studies that stated wearing masks would actually increase the chance of developing respiratory illnesses, and specifically mentioned bacterial pneumonia due to the warm moist environment that masks provide for bacteria to grow and thrive in. However as Will has noted, nearly all of the mask studies prior to 2020 are now unavailable, because they did not support the government's agenda of mask mandates.
