It appears that the difference between IPSC and IDPA is that IPSC is like Formula 1 racing: bring your neatest trick gun ("race gun"); IDPA is for ordinary people with off-the-shelf guns, more like SCCA.

Well, not entirely . .... there are divisions in USPSA for stock guns.

Also IPSC makes *NO* pretense about tactics, it's a race game.
