It looked like it should be easy. In manual mode even .125" plunge at 1 ipm worked fine. But trying to make it work in auto mode kept hanging the mill on the workpiece, eventually pulling my mill vise from the table and loosening the mill table gib that provides a tight fit. (Nuisance to get the table back in position.)
Solution: write a program that makes hundreds of .0001" moves at .05 ipm. Seems to work just fine. Lots of gCode, but it isn't really that slow. It makes nice little slots.
