Well, the Permian Basis is a huge part of Texas - it is a very large geographic feature. So naming something after it is just natural, doesn't have to be political.
ReplyDeleteI get through there storm chasing frequently, and the place is almost impassible due to the modern oil boom. The roads are full of large dually pickups transporting workers and materials hither and fro. A couple of years ago, the room rate for a Comfort Inn in Fort Stockton (basically, out in the middle of nowhere in a desert) was $160/night.
