On mine, when it's showing in Contacts, press and hold the one you want to delete. After a second or so, a menu of choices will appear that includes "Delete". Select that and confirm the deletion.
On Android 5.x, tap the entry. The activity that comes up has 'Edit' and 'More' on the menu bar. Tap More, Delete is one of the options. I'm not sure about earlier versions.

ReplyDeleteJim and Stephen's solution worked for the first contact, but not for subsequent ones.
ReplyDeleteTry deleting all the information about the contact (name, phone #, email, etc), then saving the result. That works for me.
