Android phone: How do you delete contacts?

On mine, when it's showing in Contacts, press and hold the one you want to delete. After a second or so, a menu of choices will appear that includes "Delete". Select that and confirm the deletion.

If you've linked them to your GMail address book, maybe you can do it from GMail?

On Android 5.x, tap the entry. The activity that comes up has 'Edit' and 'More' on the menu bar. Tap More, Delete is one of the options. I'm not sure about earlier versions.

Jim and Stephen's solution worked for the first contact, but not for subsequent ones.

Try deleting all the information about the contact (name, phone #, email, etc), then saving the result. That works for me.
