Feeling Rich

My mother sent me some bills with lots of 0s.
The 10,000 mark note is from the Weimar Republic.  Those planning to vote for Sanders better get used to these.

The top two are I think Czarist Russia from the double-headed eagle on the back.

Probably  the last I will hear from her; she is in hospital with liver failure.  At 99, that's probably the end .

  1. I used to have some billion mark postage stamps from the Weimar Era.

I think we're headed for major inflation even without Bernie. How else will the debt be paid off other than by devaluation?

  2. I have a nice collection of Zimbabwe cash that I use to illustrate inflation, with the 100 trillion (yes, trillion) dollar bill being the icing on the cake. In 1984 the Zimbabwe dollar was worth more than the US dollar, when the Zimbabwe dollar ceased being traded you could get yourself a nice, crisp US dollar for a mere $35 QUADrillion dollars...given that the largest bill was the $100 trillion you needed 350 of them to get a dollar. The paper they were printed on would quite literally have been worth more if didn't have anything printed on it!

It's interesting to see the look on people's faces when you go from 1, 10, 50, 100...then you show them 1000, 5000, 10000, and 100,000, etc...then 1 million, 2m, 5m, 10m, 50m, etc...then 1 billion, 5b, 10b, 50b, etc...then the trillions series. Each has the name of the president of Zimbabwe making a "promise" just like our cash, it's a good lesson on the value (or not) of money based on the faith of the recipient.
