Why Prisons Matter

The monsters who kidnapped 11-year-old Jaycee Lee Duggard, raped her repeatedly, causing her to have two children, when she was 13 and 16, have been given sentences far too short for what they deserved
Phillip Garrido, 60, received a term of 431 years in prison. His wife, Nancy, 55, was sentenced to 36 years to life. They waived the right to appeal as part of their sentences.
I am not worried about Garrido getting out real soon.  Even with time off for good behavior, I think we're safe about him.  But his wife stands a chance of leaving prison some time.  That's most unfortunate.

I notice that the article mentions that Garrido had served eleven years in prison for rape in 1976.  That was at least eleven years that he was not a threat to others.  Notice that he kidnapped and raped Ms. Duggard with a year or two of being released.

  1. ANY prison sentence is too little for this. Rape, especially of the underage, should be a capital offense.
