Thinking of Moving From Blogger to WordPress

At some point, Blogger is going to start suppressing people like me, so probably best to get out from under them when there is no time pressure.  Any comments?  Has WordPress shown any incipient fascism?  WordPress used to be free.  It still is; just a little unobvious.

I am trying to edit from the template.  It seems to not see my change to the background image.  When I start over

There is an autosave of this post that is more recent than the version below.View the autosave

But that link goes nowhere.  I see why Blogger remains alive.  It works.   I imported my blog.xml file.  That seems to be working.

  1. I have heard of problems with Wordpress.com, but now I can't remember where. You might consider moving to an offshore hosting company. I have recently done so, using hostinger.com. They (and many others) have one-click Wordpress installs. In my case, I have tried to separate my blog from my IRL identity. I would like to tell you the name of my blog, but this comment uses my google account and I don't trust google. If you have a protonmail.com email account, I can give you more information via that; otherwise, maybe I can send you an email at your regular address, although it won't be encrypted unless you have a PGP public key. I know I'm paranoid, but am I paranoid enough?

  3. WordPress has deplatformed some people. However, be aware that there are sort of two things named WordPress. One is the blog software, hosted on their servers. As far as I know, everyone who's been kicked off WordPress was kicked off hosted plans. The other thing is their software, which is free, and as far as I know they can't stop you from using if it's not on their servers. This does mean you'd have to get your own domain and webhosting package.

  4. Kevin at Smallest Minority has moved, at least in part. His new address is http://smallestminority.org/

I'd suggest talking to him about it since he's obviously done the work already.

  5. I moved to a private server that uses wordpress.

THe learning curve is a BITCH.

SOmetimes the save has to happen in 2 or more places to be effective.

Blogger is easier, but, like you, I feared being shut down.

WOrdpress as a free blog has been as bad as blogger or worse for a year or more.

I doubt you would gain anything moving to a wordpress hosted blog.

  6. The Conservative Treehouse (https://theconservativetreehouse.com) was booted off of Wordpress (https://www.independentsentinel.com/wordpress-deplatforms-the-conservative-treehouse-for-no-reason/). He has migrated to a new provider so maybe you could get up with Sundance (the head guy there) and find out what he did.

  9. Unless you plan to host your own Wordpress site, I'd avoid it. Wordpress as already de-platformed several other, but more fringe, conservative blogs.

  10. WordPress deleted Chateau Heartiste and some other blogs a couple years ago for thoughtcrime.
