One of two Aurora men accused of plotting an attack on an Illinois National Guard base in Joliet pleaded guilty Wednesday to providing material support to ISIL and making false statements regarding international terrorism.
Jonas Edmonds entered his plea before U.S. District Judge John Lee. His cousin, Hasan Edmonds, is expected to plead guilty Monday.
Federal prosecutors said Jonas Edmonds hoped to kill as many as 120 U.S. soldiers in Illinois after his cousin left to join Islamic State fighters overseas. Hasan Edmonds served with the 634th Brigade Support Battalion in Joliet, and Jonas Edmonds had allegedly planned to don his cousin’s uniform and attack the base.
