My daughter majored in English at BSU. While pursuing her Masters, she taught a couple semesters of E-101. She observed that many of her students wrote "texting style" - papers submitted with LOL, OMG, etc.; run-on sentences, no sense of paragraph breaks, etc. One of her athlete/students got a "D" - barely passed - went on to a multi-million-$ NFL career. That kinda bugged her.
