Big Mistake in Constitution

The President runs the executive branch but what if the President is a crook?  Special prosecutors have always been problematic.   Electing the Attorney-General would have been a better solution.

  1. The term you are looking for is 'impeachment.' Unfortunately, that requires that the same rot doesn't completely pervade Congress...

  2. I strongly disagree. This would take an office with at least some expectation of non-partisanship, and make it purely partisan.

But yeah, special prosecutors are a problem.

The solution is in the Constitution: impeachment. That's what it's there for: a President who is a criminal or generally not a good guy or not doing the right thing.

  3. I thought "Impeachment and removal from office" was the Constitution's answer to "What if the President is a crook?" Electing the Attorney-General would vitiate the ability of the President to run the executive branch. Given how a professional and supposedly "apolitical" civil service has worked out over the past century, I'd rather stick with the flaws of impeachment as a check on a crooked President.
