YouTube video titled "When Pirates Attacked 2 American Warships." Yes, Somali pirates opened fire on a USN destroyer and cruiser. They were a little overmatched.
Watching the video, the evidence that the operators of the dhow were pirates seems entirely circumstantial, and their dhow was rather conveniently sunk so no-one could ever know if they had been engaged in legitimate trading. Is it unreasonable to think that a Somali trading dhow would be as afraid of piracy as anyone else, and faced -- without the advantage of radar warning -- with a pair of fast approaching boats, would be prepared to resist boarding with a ferocity as if their lives depended upon it?
