Whenever You Break a Tap...
Immediately order a spare. Today, I was abusing a 8-32 tap, and it broke. I broke one a few weeks ago and never ordered a spare. Fortunately, it was most of the way through the material when it broke, so I was able to use Vise-Grips to turn it all the way out, producing a tapped hole.

The trick of putting the tap in a drill press and turning it by hand works. They snap when they get out of alignment.
ReplyDeleteAlso use the proper cutting fluid.
