Who is Arturo Gamboa?

He pulled an AR-15 out of a backpack at a "No Kings" rally.  A rally peacekeeper drew on him, believing, probably rationally, that this guy was going to start shooting.

Because one person died from shots fired at Gamboa, police charged Gamboa with murder.

So was Gamboa MAGA?  No.   6/16/25 Fox channel 13 linked to this 2021 piece in Slug magazine which seems to be a Salt Lake City music scene publication:
"In addition, having a family tradition of military service revealed to Gamboa how America’s international affairs affect the community of the world as well those who serve. “It’s not fundamentally broken—it’s perfect,” he says. “This is exactly how the system is meant to function. The American system is a steam train that’s always been fueled by black and brown bodies.” "'

Definitely not MAGA.  Carrying a gun openly in an urban environment is, I think, a bit rude, even though legsl.  Carrying a rifle even more so.

Handguns are short-range defensive weapons.   Rifles are not short-range.  While they can certainly be used defensively, they are also offensive wespons at long ranges.  Carrying a rifle is easily misunderstood as a threat.

An AR-15 in the current time is just screaming for unnecessary attention, exponentially raising perceived risk.  At a political rally, multiply that several times.

I am upset that this guy's lack of wits (already demonstrated by the statements in the SLUG interview) caused what seems to have been a rational response by the peacekeeper and the death of a "No Kings" protestor.

Let's be thoughtful when open carrying.   Of course,  you probably would not be participating in a "No Kings" rally.
