If You Can Buy It, It Is Always Cheaper Than Making It

Some years ago. I built something like those thread gages you find in the fastener section.  It was an aluminum C-channel in which I drilled and tapped holes from 6-32 to 1/2"-13, then put the screws for each size in the alternating holes. 

 If I had thought this through, I would have put the holes for checking screws in a separate block.  Trying to screw a short 8-32 screw in between the 6-32 !and 8-32 screws was impractical. 

I have used it for 15 years.  Somehow, in the last week or so, it has wandered off.  My shop can be disorganized but not that chaotic. Rather than make another. I ordered one that includes metric and drill sizes.

As I have observed before, at least orally, if not blogually, I could probably make most of a gun with what I have, but my time is way too valuable to build not buy.

Right now, when not in the shop, I am writing a declaration concerning disarmament of the mentally ill in the Framing and Reconstruction era.  Tragically,  the plaintiff was declared "not mentally ill" by the doctor who observed him for two days.  The doctor even put that in writing to the police chief.  But this is New York State, a reality-optional zone.
