Curious Educational Services Company CEO Indicted; LA Schools Chief Resigns

6/22/26 KABC:

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District resigned Sunday night, nearly four months after the FBI served search warrants at his home and the LAUSD's headquarters as part of an ongoing investigation.

An LAUSD spokesperson confirmed to Eyewitness News that the district received a letter of resignation from Carvalho...

On Feb. 27, two days after the FBI conducted searches at Carvalho's home and LAUSD offices, the district's Board of Education voted unanimously to place him on leave pending the outcome of the probe.

"Mr. Carvalho remains confident that the evidence will ultimately demonstrate that he acted appropriately and in the best interests of students," said a statement released in March, attributed to a spokesperson for Carvalho. "We hope the school board reinstates him promptly to his position as superintendent."

Authorities have not charged Carvalho with any crimes.

The FBI also searched a third location near Miami. The Miami Herald reported the Florida property belonged to Debra Kerr, who previously worked with AllHere, an education technology company that had a contract with Los Angeles schools before it collapsed and its leader was indicted for fraud.

In 2024, Carvalho heavily touted a deal with AllHere for an AI chatbot named "Ed" designed to help students. But about three months after unveiling the technology and paying the company $3 million, the district dropped its dealings with AllHere, which collapsed into bankruptcy. Months later, founder Joanna Smith-Griffin was charged with securities and wire fraud, along with identity theft.

At the time, Carvalho denied personal involvement in the selection of AllHere, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Do you wonder why Los Angeles city schools perform so much worse than the standard? Perhaps less money spent on "Ed" and more on "Education."

If This Is Not Revenge for Challenging Biden's Open Borders Policy, Then Someone is An Idiot

 9/26/24 [U.K.] Telegraph:

A Turkish businessman told Eric Adams he would “soon” become the US president, after he and his peers lavished the New York mayor with business class flights and luxury travel worth $123,000, according to prosecutors...

What Is It About Being Raised by Professors at Prestige Universities?

12/23/22 New York Post:

However, in exchange for Ellison’s decision to “truthfully and completely disclose all information concerning all matters” in the investigation, prosecutors agree to release the Stanford-educated math whiz on $250,000 bail.

Deals struck with federal prosecutors are not usually revealed before they have been completed, so the amount of prison time — if any — Ellison has agreed to serve will not be announced until after she has finished co-operating, likely once Bankman-Fried’s trial has concluded.

The bail sum is 1,000 times less than that of her former paramour, Bankman-Fried, who is holed up at his parents’ Palo Alto home with an ankle monitor after being released on a record-breaking $250 million bail bond following his extradition from the Bahamas.

As part of her plea, Ellison, a Massachusetts native whose parents both teach at MIT, is also not allowed to travel outside the continental United States, and was made to surrender her travel documents to law enforcement.

SBF's parents are Stanford professors.  It is an article of faith to the left that high crimes in the ghettos are caused by poverty.  How much grinding poverty did SBF and Ellison suffer?

And how did SBF post $250 million bond?  Partly a house owned by Stanford.  It must be a heckuva house.  (Just kidding; there are doubtless a lot of other leftists who have pledged their homes to get SBF out.)

To Quote Jim Nabors: "Surprise, surprise, surprise!"

The surprise, however, is an indictment.  8/6/20 San Jose Mercury-News:
SAN JOSE — A grand jury has indicted a Santa Clara County Sheriff’s captain and three political supporters of Sheriff Laurie Smith for allegedly brokering a pay-for-play scheme in which campaign donations were exchanged for concealed-carry weapons permits. The sheriff herself avoided indictment, but prosecutors said Friday that their corruption probe is far from over.

Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen announced felony charges including conspiracy and bribery against Capt. James Jensen; Christopher Schumb, an officer for a sheriff reelection committee and a prominent South Bay litigator; attorney Harpaul Nahal; and Milpitas gun-parts maker Michael Nichols. All four are accused of plotting to illegally secure concealed-gun permits for employees of Seattle-based executive security contractor AS Solution.

The indictment marks the first criminal case to come out of a decade’s worth of complaints regarding political favoritism in Smith’s issuing of the hard-to-get concealed-carry permits. Rosen said Friday that an 18-month investigation uncovered a two-tiered policy for the concealed gun permits: a process for regular citizens whose applications were destined for a filing cabinet, and another for VIPs whose applications were fast-tracked for approval.

“My office’s concern is not whether the sheriff grants many or few CCW licenses, but whether they are being granted or denied for the wrong reasons,” Rosen said. “CCW licenses should not be given out in exchange for campaign donations. They should not be for sale.”

A criminal grand jury was impaneled in July and began convening about two weeks ago. When asked whether Smith or other top commanders were involved in the pay to play scheme, Rosen declined to comment, citing the active investigation.

“We are not done,” he added.

Jensen has been placed on administrative leave, the sheriff’s office said Friday, adding that “we will continue to monitor the situation and have no further information at this time.”

Why Do Democrats Make This a Matter of Public Policy?

1/3/19 Chicago Tribune:
Longtime Ald. Edward Burke, one of Chicago’s most powerful figures and a vestige of the city’s old Democratic machine, has often been considered too clever and sophisticated to be caught blatantly using his public office to enrich himself.
But after years of dodging investigations while watching dozens of his colleagues hauled off to prison, Burke has been accused of crossing the line himself — and doing so in a quintessential Chicago way.
federal criminal complaint unsealed Thursday charged Burke with attempted extortion for allegedly using his position as alderman to try to steer business to his private law firm from a company seeking to renovate a fast-food restaurant in his ward. The charge carries a maximum of 20 years in prison on conviction.
And there was nothing subtle about it:
A week and a half later, the FBI intercepted a phone call between Burke and one of the executives, who still seemed caught off guard over the purported shakedown and uncertain how to react. At one point, Burke said bluntly that he needed assurances that he’d get the business before “we can expedite your permits," according to the complaint.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Burke. What was that last part?" the executive was quoted as saying.
After deciding to play “hard ball” with the executives, Burke had a stop-work order placed on the project and also sent a Chicago Department of Transportation inspector to the site to issue tickets for failure to procure a permit for a driveway at the restaurant that actually had been previously obtained, according to the charges.
Chicago goes through these corruption stings every few years because the culture of corruption is part of the Democratic Party back through Tammany Hall, and it does not seem to bother Democratic voters.

Another One Bites the Dust

NY A-G Eric Schneiderman, assault weapon ban advocate has resigned after allegations of violence against women.    I have long believed gun control advocacy is a sign of people with self-control problems that they project on to others.

It gets worse: 5/7/18 New York Post:
State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman called his Sri Lankan girlfriend his “brown slave” and wanted her to refer to him as “Master,” the woman says.
Harvard-educated activist writer Tanya Selvaratnam told the New Yorker magazine that her yearlong affair with Schneiderman “was a fairytale that became a nightmare” — and quickly escalated into violence in the bedroom, even as he begged for threesomes.
“Sometimes, he’d tell me to call him Master, and he’d slap me until I did,” Selvaratnam said.
“He started calling me his ‘brown slave’ and demanding that I repeat that I was ‘his property.’”
Selvaratnam said, “The slaps started after we’d gotten to know each other.
He is a Democrat; they know how to address people with dark skins.

Another part of this was his threats to use the powers of his office against women who stopped seeing him.  That turns brutish behavior into a criminal act.  Trump has been accused of many things so far, but not that.

Why the Democrats Should Not Get the "Regain control of Congress" Party Started Too Soon

Appearing with her attorney Friday, accused congressional candidate Shaun Brown vehemently denied any wrongdoing in response to federal fraud charges against her, vowed to fight the charges and said she expects to be fully exonerated.
The Hampton native held a press conference in Newport News to declare her innocence and a commitment to her nonprofit JOBS Community Development Corp. and its mission to feed needy children throughout Virginia.
Brown, 58, who is seeking the Democratic nomination for the 2nd Congressional District seat next year, was indicted Thursday on three counts of fraud, embezzlement and theft allegedly occurring in 2012.
The federal complaint alleges that Brown, via her nonprofit as a sponsor for the U.S.Department of Agriculture Summer Food Service Program, filed false reimbursement claims with the Virginia Department of Health and received approximately $803,000 in funds to the nonprofit’s bank account.
One of the ,longstanding problems with Democratic politicians is their inability to not feed at the public trough.  Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) had to resign; his wife went to prison.  03/10/17 Associated Press:
A former Detroit city councilwoman was sentenced to more than three years in prison Wednesday for bribery after a federal judge refused to set aside her guilty plea during a stormy court hearing dominated by a dispute over evidence of other payoffs.
As guards cleared the packed courtroom, Monica Conyers yelled that she planned to appeal. The wife of U.S. Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., wanted to withdraw her guilty plea, suggesting she was the victim of "badgering" last year when she admitted taking cash to support a Houston company's sludge contract with the city.
But U.S. District Judge Avern Cohn, reviewing a transcript of the June hearing, said Conyers had denied any coercion and voluntarily pleaded guilty to conspiracy.Conyers is the biggest catch so far in the FBI's wide-ranging investigation of corruption in Detroit city government. Nine people have pleaded guilty, including two former directors of the downtown convention center, and prosecutors have promised that more charges are coming.
Vincent and McCain's Donkey Cons points out that is not a recent development.

There Were Democrats Who Warned Them Not to Go There

I mentioned in July that well-known alt-right publication New York Times had pointed out the obvious corruption in the Uranium One deal to the benefit of the Russians.  The Hill now reports:
Before the Obama administration approved a controversial deal in 2010 giving Moscow control of a large swath of American uranium, the FBI had gathered substantial evidence that Russian nuclear industry officials were engaged in bribery, kickbacks, extortion and money laundering designed to grow Vladimir Putin’s atomic energy business inside the United States, according to government documents and interviews.
Federal agents used a confidential U.S. witness working inside the Russian nuclear industry to gather extensive financial records, make secret recordings and intercept emails as early as 2009 that showed Moscow had compromised an American uranium trucking firm with bribes and kickbacks in violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, FBI and court documents show.
They also obtained an eyewitness account — backed by documents — indicating Russian nuclear officials had routed millions of dollars to the U.S. designed to benefit former President Bill Clinton’s charitable foundation during the time Secretary of State Hillary Clinton served on a government body that provided a favorable decision to Moscow, sources told The Hill.
10/18/17 Fox News report Senate Judiciary Committee is starting to ask questions about this.   Maybe we can see both Clintons and Obama to go to prison.

Democratic Party Primary Fun & Games

For those who thought the DNC's attempts to prevent Sen. Bernie "Chavez" Sanders from getting the nomination for Felonia Pantsuit was an aberration: 9/16/17 Roll Call:
Lawyers for a former Democratic primary challenger to Pennsylvania Rep. Robert Brady said his client plans to plead guilty to hiding a $90,000 payment from Brady's campaign after dropping out of the primary in 2012.
Court documents show that former Philadephia city judge Jimmie Moore met with Brady and said the arrangement was “agreed and understood” that the payment would be disguised, The Associated Press reported.
Not just Moore's claim against Brady's denial:
Moore’s former staffer Carolyn Cavaness admitted to falsifying Federal Election Commission records in July. The case was under seal after prosecutors argued Brady tried to influence a witness but was unsealed after Cavaness pled guilty.

I Hope He Is in Prison Before Gets a Chance to Vote to Impeach Trump

8/30/17 CNN:

(CNN)Email correspondence, flight manifests, hotel bills, credit card statements and Federal Election Commission filings will all be deployed as evidence of an alleged bribery scheme carried out for seven years by New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez and an associate, according to a new brief filed by prosecutors in federal court Wednesday.
The outline of the Justice Department's case came one week before the trial against Menendez and his co-defendant, Florida-based ophthalmologist Salomon Melgen, begins on September 6 in federal court in Newark, New Jersey. Menendez and Melgen have been charged with 18 counts of fraud and bribery crimes. Both have entered a plea of not guilty.
Menendez and Melgen are accused of having a "quid pro quo" relationship going as far back as 2006. Prosecutors say that in exchange for luxurious vacations and large donations to his campaign coffers, Menendez used his power to advocate for various personal and business interests of Melgen's within the government.
And right below in news.google.com:  8/30/17 NJ.com:
Menendez: ending program for immigrant children would be 'heartless'
Maybe a bit less money into Melgen's pocket could help?

Racists in Politics

Symone Sanders, former spokeswoman for the Bernie Sanders presidential campaign, appeared on CNN Wednesday afternoon to weigh in on the future of the DNC and the Democratic party. Sanders dismissed the idea of Howard Dean returning as DNC chairman commenting, "we don't need white people leading the Democratic party right now."
"Howard Dean is also on record maligning young people and millennials. Telling those Bernie folks they just need to get in line and maligning Bernie Sanders. And that is not what we need," Sanders said about the former party chairman.
Bad news Symone, the Democrats are still majority white. Why are you discriminating against whites?

Voters Are Not Completely Stupid

I mentioned a while back a Congresswoman from Florida indicted for soliciting money for a charity that primarily helped her.  She lost the primary.  8/30/16 The Hill:
Rep. Corrine Brown (D-Fla.) is projected to lose her Democratic primary, making her the fifth House incumbent this cycle to be defeated in a primary.
Brown, who was indicted last month and whose district was redrawn after court-ordered redistricting, was defeated by former state Sen. Al Lawson in a primary for the Jacksonville-area seat.
With 98 percent of the votes counted Tuesday night, Lawson had 48 percent to Brown's 39 percent, according to the Associated Press.
In early July, Brown and Chief of Staff Elias “Ronnie” Simmons, were charged with 24 counts of fraud in connection with a fake charity. The charges include mail and wire fraud, conspiracy and tax fraud, according to the Department of Justice.
If she had been convicted, would she have only received 30% of the vote?

More Criminal Gun Control Nuts

I have mentioned that gun control is a projection problem of essentially criminal people who believe everyone else is at least as evil as them;  hence the recurring arrests and convictions of members of Mayors Against Illegal Guns.  A new one: 8/15/16 New York Times:

NORRISTOWN, Pa. — She was a rising Democratic star. She was the first in her party to be elected state attorney general. She was one of the most powerful women in Pennsylvania.
But on Monday night, Kathleen G. Kane, the state’s top prosecutor, became a convicted criminal.
A jury found Ms. Kane, 50, guilty of nine criminal charges, including perjury and criminal conspiracy, convicting her of leaking grand jury information, and then lying about it, in an effort to discredit a political rival.
Ms. Kane was caught up in a web of scandal and counterscandal, threaded with lewd emails, political rivalries and alleged leaks. It has cost other state officials, including two State Supreme Court justices, their jobs and Ms. Kane her law license, although she has remained on the job as attorney general.
Bloomberg put her into office to push gun control, arbitrarily ending recognition of many other states' concealed carry licenses contrary to state law.

Promote Racial Division and Hatred as Political Strategy and Look Where it Takes You

The Democrats (as they have done for two centuries) are promoting racial hatred for political advantage to make it easier to loot the public trough.  Unlike previous centuries, when they promoted racial hatred against blacks, now they promote it against whites.

From 7/8/16 New York Daily News:
Amid the massacre, Johnson told a police negotiator he was targeting white officers because he was angry over the recent spate of cop-involved killings.
“He said he was upset about the recent police shootings,” Dallas Police Chief David Brown said. “The suspect said he was upset at white people. The suspect stated he wanted to kill white people, especially white officers.”
When Democrats promoted race hatred in the 19th century it was for the Tammany Hall corruption.  These days?  7/8/16 CBS News:
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown of Florida and her chief of staff pleaded not guilty Friday to multiple fraud charges and other federal offenses in a grand jury indictment unsealed after an investigation into what prosecutors call a phony charity turned into a personal slush fund.
Brown, a 69-year-old Democrat, and Chief of Staff Elias "Ronnie" Simmons, 50, entered pleas in Jacksonville federal court on charges of mail and wire fraud, conspiracy, obstruction and filing of false tax returns.
She faces a maximum of 357 years in prison and nearly $5 million in fines if she is convicted on all charges, CBS affiliate WJAX reported. Simmons faces a maximum of 355 years in prison and nearly $5 million in fines if he is convicted.
Brown has represented a Jacksonville-based congressional district since 1993 -- one of the first three African-Americans elected to Congress from Florida since Reconstruction -- and is seeking re-election in a newly redrawn district. She stepped down as senior Democrat on the House Veterans Affairs Committee following her indictment.

6/21/16 USA Today:
Longtime Rep. Chaka Fattah, D-Pa., was convicted in a federal court Tuesday of taking bribes and stealing charitable funds and federal money.
Fattah — who was defeated in a Democratic primary in April in his bid for a 12th term in Congress — was convicted of steering federal funds to non-profits he controlled and then skimming that money to pay off debts for his unsuccessful run for mayor of Philadelphia in 2007.
Fattah and several co-conspirators were named in a 29-count indictment filed last July. Fattah has proclaimed his innocence throughout the case. "I haven't committed any crime," he said in a court appearance last August. He told reporters, “I understand their desire to come after me ... but to take innocent people, to take people in my family and to smear their good name — that says a lot about character, so I think that's the most unfortunate part about this entire process."

Another Reminder Who the Democratic Party Is

5/27/16 KTLA:
California billionaire Tom Steyer stars in a new Spanish-language television commerical attacking presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
From PowerLine:
Billionaire hedge fund operator and “green” energy magnate Tom Steyer has pledged $100 million in the 2014 election cycle to help Democratic candidates who oppose the Keystone pipeline and who favor “green” energy over fossil fuels. Steyer claims to be a man of principle who has no financial interest in the causes he supports, but acts only for the public good. That is a ridiculous claim: Steyer is the ultimate rent-seeker who depends on government connections to produce subsidies and mandates that make his “green” energy investments profitable. He also is, or was until recently, a major investor in Kinder Morgan, which is building a competitor to the Keystone pipeline.
Go hereherehereherehere andhere for more information about how Steyer uses his political donations and consequent connections to enhance his already vast fortune. But Steyer’s hypocrisy goes still deeper. Today, he is a bitter opponent of fossil fuels, especially coal. That fits with his current economic interests: banning coal-fired power plants will boost the value of his solar projects. But it was not always thus. In fact, Steyer owes his fortune in large part to the fact that he has been one of the world’s largest financers of coal projects. Tom Steyer was for coal before he was against it.

I Guess New York City Truck Drivers Get Paid Better Than I Thought

From an article about NYC Mayor DeBlasio's continuing campaign finance problems:
The federal probe is checking whether some donors to de Blasio’s mayoral run were either reimbursed for their contributions or given cash to pass along to the campaign in order to skirt the city’s donation limits, according to sources.
The city’s campaign finance law prohibits individuals from contributing more than $4,950 to a candidate running for a citywide office during one election cycle. And it’s illegal to give someone else money to donate to a campaign....
A DNAinfo New York examination of de Blasio’s campaign finances has found some unusual contributions — one commercial driver who flip-flopped about making two sizeable donations and a Bronx landlord who said he did not give $4,500 to the mayor’s transition team, even though records show he did.
City Campaign Finance Board records show that two commercial drivers for a Queens beauty product wholesaler gave nearly $10,000 each to de Blasio’s mayoral run and transition team in less than two months time.
One driver is Rafael Zepeda, who lives in a third-floor walk-up in Corona and donated $5,000 by bank check to the de Blasio campaign on Oct. 27, 2013. On his contribution card, he listed his occupation as a driver for the wholesaler, Primary One LLC.
Zepeda made the contribution via a fundraiser thrown at a Washington Heights nightclub, but he did not attend the soiree, records show.
The maximum donation an individual can make to a city candidate’s election campaign is $4,950, so the de Blasio team later reimbursed Zepeda $50, records show.
After de Blasio won the election, Zepeda on Dec. 10, 2013 donated another $4,500 to his mayoral transition committee — the maximum contribution allowed under city rules to a transition team.
When DNAinfo reached Zepeda by phone late last month, he initially said he made the donations.
Hours later, Zepeda told DNAinfo that he did not make the donation and that he spells his name “Cepeda” not “Zepeda.” However, campaign records and a November 2015 arrest for driving without a valid license show his name is spelled “Zepeda.”
Records also show that Zepeda’s co-worker, Jose Zepeda, also donated the maximum amount to de Blasio’s campaign and transition team.
Jose donated $5,000 at an Oct. 21, 2013, fundraiser. The de Blasio campaign also reimbursed Jose $50 for contributing over the $4,950 limit.
Jose, who on his contribution card listed his home as an Elmhurst apartment and his occupation as a driver for Primary One LLC, later donated $4,500 to de Blasio’s transition team on Dec. 10, 2013.
DeBlasio being progressive, this won't be a big deal.

Do Perverts Go Into Politics to Get Access to Children?

Or is it that our society is awash in pedophiles and we are disappointed when they turn up in high office?  From the Eugene Register-Guard:
Ursula Le Guin’s story, “The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas,” is set in the ultimate Shining City on a Hill, a place of joy and happiness, full of educated, creative types who spend their days frolicking at festivals and occasionally indulging in (non-habit-forming) drugs that reveal the secrets of the universe while “exciting the pleasure of sex beyond all belief.”

There are “fast little trains and double-decked trams” in Omelas. And a farmers’ market.

There’s just one catch — the “happiness, the beauty of their city” depends on a single child being locked away in a tiny room, kept in darkness, isolation and misery:

“If the child were brought up into the sunlight, … all the prosperity and beauty and delight of Omelas would wither and be destroyed. ... The child’s torture is no secret. The good people of Omelas know.”

Portland is Omelas. Maybe all of Oregon is Omelas. And the child upon whose cruel treatment the people’s happiness depended was a 14-year-old girl, the victim of long-term sexual abuse by Neil Goldschmidt, who served as mayor of Portland and governor of Oregon.

Goldschmidt’s crimes came to light in 2004, decades after the abuse began. The statute of limitations protected him from prosecution.

Goldschmidt has vanished from Oregon’s political scene, at least for now, but public attention focused once more on his offenses when his victim died on Jan. 16 in a Portland hospice of undisclosed causes at age 49. Her short life was full of suffering, in large measure because of Goldschmidt — but also because of the people of Omelas.

Over Spanish coffees at Huber’s Cafe in Portland in late 1994, a friend and colleague from Goldschmidt’s governor’s office told me a story about a girl he had dated occasionally back in the 1970s. She was 14, and he was 16. One night, as he walked up to her front door, he heard music. He stood quietly and watched through the window as the girl danced about the living room. She was the most beautiful girl he’d ever seen.

She confided in him that she and then-Mayor Goldschmidt were having sex. He went to his parents, who knew and admired Goldschmidt. The girl was crazy, they said. Ignore her. Neil’s a great man.

In May 2004, on the day Neil’s criminal past was finally revealed, my friend called me. He said it was a shame the story had come out: “Look at all the terrific things he did for Portland and Oregon.”

Why Twitter Can Be A Bad Thing

If you lack the judgment of a goldfish.  From Nov. 15, 2015 Minneapolis Star-Tribune:

Burnsville DFLer abruptly quits state House race after tweeting 'ISIS isn't necessarily evil'

Burnsville’s Dan Kimmel abruptly ends state House run, says that his post was “badly misinterpreted.”

For those not in Minnesota: DFL is the Democrat-Farmer-Labor Party.  Unfortunately, the Democrats in some parts of America are as dependent on Muslim votes as they used to be dependent on Jewish votes.

If We Had A President Committed to Enforcing The Laws...

This would result in criminal prosecutions.  From Sept. 30, 2015 Washington Post:

Secret Service official wanted to embarrass congressman

An assistant director of the Secret Service urged that unflattering information the agency had in its files about a congressman critical of the service should be made public, according to a government watchdog report released Wednesday.

“Some information that he might find embarrassing needs to get out,” Assistant Director Edward Lowery wrote in an e-mail to a fellow director on March 31, commenting on an internal file that was being widely circulated inside the service. “Just to be fair.”

Two days later, a news Web site reported that Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, had applied to be a Secret Service agent in 2003 and been rejected.

That information was part of a Chaffetz personnel file stored in a restricted Secret Service database and required by law to be kept private.

And the comments from Obama's supporters are priceless.

The Real Reason For Global Warming Hysteria

To make a billionaire richer.  From August 19, 2015 Fox News:
Billionaire investor George Soros, who has demonized fossil fuels for years through his think tanks and political contributions, seems to have warmed up to Big Coal now that stocks are dirt cheap.
The left-wing hedge fund legend has raised eyebrows with major purchases of stock in two large coal companies, firms his critics say he helped bring to their knees. While buying low is the hallmark of any shrewd investor, buying coal goes against the political and environmental ideology Soros has long espoused.

“I find it very interesting that George Soros would buy shares in those coal companies,” said Daniel Simmons, vice president for Policy at the Washington DC-based free market energy group, Institute for Energy Research. “I am confused given the non profits he funds and how hard they have worked to demonize coal.”

Soros, whose Climate Policy Initiative think tank recently urged the world to stop using fossil fuels in general and coal in particular, snapped up 1 million shares of Peabody Energy and half a million shares of Arch Coal, giving him significant stakes in what’s left of the U.S. coal industry.
The trades would have cost Soros a lot more six years ago, when Peabody, which trades under the symbol BTU, was at about $90 a share. Under the Obama administration, which has punished the coal industry with costly mandates and regulation, Peabody shares have fallen to around $1....
The 85-year-old hedge fund manager has a net worth of $24.2 billion, according to Forbes.com, which makes him the 19th wealthiest person in U.S. and second among hedge fund managers.

The most recent filing shows Soros Fund Management holds stakes in 263 companies with a total value of nearly $11 billion.

The filing shows the purchases of 553,200 shares of Arch Coal for $188,000 and an investment of $2,254,000 into Peabody Energy for 1,029,400 shares, which means he’s lost money on both so far. Peabody, the biggest coal producer in the U.S. by output, said in a recent statement that it “has been trying to turn itself around as it faces challenges from low natural-gas prices, a glut of global coal supplies, weakened demand from China and a growing public call to cut carbon emissions.”

No surprise.  Soros is unapologetic for helping the Nazis loot his fellow Jews.  Is it any surprise he used his property(Obama and the Democratic Party) to destroy coal stocks so he could buy them cheap?  No surprise that Bernie Sanders is allied with Soros.
