Trump v. Casa (2025) decided today is only peripherally related to Trump's executive order concerning whether babies born in the U.S. to illegal aliens are citizens. The bigger issue is whether a federal judge may issue a universal injunction, enjoining enforcement of an executive order throughout the U S. for all similarly aggrieved (or claimed to be aggrieved) parties.
I do not pretend to have enough knowledge to tell how accurately Justice Barrett and the other five justices ruled on this. At least for now, judges may only enjoin actions for those who were actually parties to the suit
.
The birthright citizenship question was only at the preliminary injunction stage, so that question remains undecided.
