California One-Gun-a-Month Struck Down

The 9th Circuit ruled that California's ban on purchasing more than one gun a month violates the Second Amendment.  Nguyen v. Bonta (9th Cir. 2025).

On pp. 23-24, thr decision cites a law review article by myself and Joe Olson. Time to update my list of citations.

The constitutional question resolves this but I also find myself wondering why, if the goal was to stop strawman purchases,  they took such a circuitous path.  Private transfer of firearms has been unlawful since 1991.  If you find a gun in the hands of a person for whom the gun is not registered,  go find the last lawful owner and prosecute him.  This assumes the stated goal was to stop strawman purchases.
