Why Did So Many Elderly People Die of COVID-19
5/1/20 Bucks County Courier News:
On March 29, as Pennsylvania, New York and other states began
ordering nursing homes to admit medically stable residents infected with
the coronavirus, national trade groups warned it could unnecessarily
cost more lives.
The health directives put “frail and older
adults who reside in nursing homes at risk” and would “result in more
people going to the hospital and more deaths,” the American Health Care
Association and affiliates said at the time.
A month later, it appears government officials should have heeded the dire call to pursue different pandemic emergency plans.
The
deadly virus has spread like wildfire through many nursing homes across
the Northeast, and state officials are scrambling to better protect
those most vulnerable to COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus.
What was the reasoning?
Same reasons the season Influenza causes more death among the at-risk and elderly.
ReplyDeleteAs we age our body's immune system becomes weaker and less able to adapt and fight off disease. Just how it is. People with immune-system diseases like diabetes, lupus, or rheumatoid arthritis; people with medication that weakens the immune system (more and more nowadays); people getting treated for, or recently treated for cancer; the list is really quite extensive.
All these persons have poor immune systems and poor immune response. The Virus itself however, like the Flu, is rarely the actual cause of death. Secondary infections like pneumonia are common, and are frequently what actually kill the person.
Saving Social Security without having to actually vote on something unpopular?
ReplyDeleteOf course that argument works for the Mega-Trillion Relief bills; Inflate the money supply, everyone can be a millionaire with just his pocket change or whatever he can find under the seat cushions.
Clayton,
ReplyDeleteI will advance good faith and presume your question ("What was the reasoning?") to be simply cynically sarcastic.
The reason for ordering nursing homes to admit patients infected with the coronavirus is right there in line with: "Swedish doctor Jon Tallinger on Sweden’s health service’s rules regarding elderly coronavirus victims. Instead of giving them oxygen treatment, nursing homes are required to administer morphine..."
Opioids are CNS depressants and as such inhibit respiratory response. That's why junkies die with needles still half booted; they stop breathing.
These are nothing more than retrograde abortions. Mandatory euthanasia for infants (abortion) and the elderly.
The easiest way to eliminate medical costs is to eliminate patients.
