Why Public Universities Are So Expensive

I found this on Small Dead Animals, which you should read every day:
The University of Michigan Has At Least 82 Full-Time Diversity Officers at a Total Annual Payroll Cost of $10.6M. That Would Support Full In-State Tuition for 708 Students.
Back in the 1960s and 1970s, one of the ransoms that universities had to pay to get their buildings back in one piece were Afro-American Studies programs, which were almost always staffed with faculty who would otherwise not be faculty. (A friend at Sonma State University had a professor who did not even have a bachelor's degree.  He seldom showed up yo teach.)
