More Joy

Umbilical Hernia.  My doctor wants me too see a surgeon TODAY.

UPDATE: The surgeon says he pretty sure it isn't intestines coming through the wall, but fat, so surgery on the 10th.  This will be a laparoscopy.  He was having the medical student who was shadowing him listen to my horse-valve heart; he described as sounding like a hamster farting.

  1. Vowel obstruction is no fun... specially if gangrene sets in....

    GO!

  2. My wife has had two hiatal hernia operations. They are certainly not fun but I'm confident that you'll get through this just fine. Regardless, my thoughts and prayers are with you, your family, and your doctors.

  3. Hang in there Clayton, you're in my prayers.

Isn't it wonderful that we live in an age where such things can be known & treated? My great-great grandmother died while washing dishes, and no one even knew why it had happened; she just collapsed and that was it. These days she'd probably have lived to 100, and I'm sure you will too!

  4. By coincidence, I'm having an Inguinal hernia operation on July 10, also. It's on an outpatient basis, so I'll be out after about 5 hours. This came about because of a perforated appendix that was removed at the beginning of June, and the surgeons wanted to let things cool down before cutting me open again.
I have an asymptomatic umbilical hernia, too, that I did not know about until the pre-op with the surgeon.

Good luck. And leave the nurses alone!

  5. Eskyman: Indeed. The heart attack that killed my father in 1976 would likely have been survivable today. You want to get freaked out? Read Jurgen Thorwald's Century of the Surgeon.

Windy: I'm married. Should I tell you about the Swedish nurse that bathed me?
