Any purely mechanical problem can be solved with enough eyeballs and thought on the problem. There is an adjustment for guide width that controls how much blade is available for cutting from 4" to 6". All the way in, means the upper assembly can't drop all the way down to complete the cut.
Also, the more I tried to cut consistent lengths the more need I saw for accessory for these saws that I will make and sell.
