I Really Do Not Want To Believe This Story
Because if it is true, there really are people so stupid that they probably need instructions every few seconds: inhale, exhale. From March 1, 2013 Hit and Run:
A Maryland kid chewed his breakfast pastry into the shape of a gun at school and wound up with two days suspension. The pastry in question was not named, but it's gotta be a Pop-Tart, right? The kid claims he was actually trying to chew it in the shape of a mountain, but the teacher decided it looked too much like a gun. Let's give the teacher The benefit of the doubt: what if the kid actually was chewing his pastry into the shape of the dreaded AR 15? Did the teacher think this kid was about to open fire, squirting strawberry filling all over the rest of the students?
The Battle of Athens (1946)
I did not realize that a TV-movie had been made about this. Below is a video that uses some excerpts from the film:
On a national scale, this will not be so easy.

Colorful Doesn't Even Begin To Describe This Guy
The March 1, 2013 Kansas City Star has an interesting article about one of the more uniquely American characters: a guy named Del Dunmire. He has spent tens of millions of dollars restoring a pre-Civil Wart own called Harrisonville -- and now it is for sale. What makes this guy Dunmire so colorful is his past:

Dunmire arrived with a résumé laden with eccentricity. He had bankrolled a Caribbean cruise for his entire 1952 high school graduating class, and hired Evel Knievel and Fabian to perform at his Kansas City wedding extravaganza....I would like to think that every reasonably clever person could figure out a way to turn a horrible mistake like that into the Great American Success Story. Pretty obviously, that isn't the case, but it is still heartwarming to see someone like this.
It was an October day in 1958. Dunmire, an airman based at Schilling Air Force Base (now closed) in Kansas, drove to Abilene, robbed a bank and got away with a little more than $2,000. But during his getaway, he made a wrong turn and drove down a dead-end road.
A state trooper simply waited for him to head back his way and then shot out a tire on Dunmire’s rented Chevy.
Dunmire went to prison. It was there that he decided he wanted to be rich, the legitimate way.
He went from prison to college. He studied engineering. Then he started a machine shop that eventually turned into Growth Industries, which makes parts for aircraft — components for landing gear, cockpits and lavatories.
He got rich and didn’t hide it.

"We Are Going To Take Over The World"
The February 28, 2013 Wall Street Journal has an article about privately owned tanks in the U.S. -- there are lots of them. (Don't tell Senator Feinstein.) The article describes what happened when a couple of brothers bought a tank and insured it, and this comment on the article describes a "missed opportunity":
When their insurance agent inquired about their plans for the tank, the Neal brothers emailed back, "We are going to use it to take over the world."'Shall Not Be Questioned provided the link to the article, pointing out that, as usual, Vice President Biden does not know what he is talking about:
This was a wasted opportunity. The appropriate response should have been "We find it effective in helping settle claim disputes with insurance companies"
In the same interview where he advised people to randomly shoot guns in the air and violate discharge ordinances, Joe Biden told everyone that citizens aren’t allowed have tanks under the law.
An Encouraging Piece of News
One of the signs of what a ferociously racist country America is that there are more black men in prison than in college. Dr. Ivory Toldson at The Root says that this isn't true -- not even close -- nor does it ever appear to have been true. At best, some of the data on black attendance in colleges was very incomplete some years ago, and a cursory examination of the data might have led someone to believe it-- but it is certainly not the case today.
Today there are approximately 600,000 more black men in college than in jail, and the best research evidence suggests that the line was never true to begin with. In this two-part entry in Show Me the Numbers, the Journal of Negro Education's monthly series for The Root, I examine the dubious origins, widespread use and harmful effects of what is arguably the most frequently quoted statistic about black men in the United States.

VP Biden, Authority on Use of Lethal Force
Have none of Biden's handlers heard of the expression, "When you are in a hole, stop digging"? After giving advice for how women should protect themselves that legal authorities in Maryland concluded would constitute criminal offenses, Biden just keeps going, as this article in February 28, 2013 U.S. News & World Report details:
Vice President Joe Biden told Field & Stream magazine in an interview published Monday, "[if] you want to keep someone away from your house, just fire the shotgun through the door."So why does anyone take this idiot seriously?
Coincidentally, a 22-year-old man in Virginia Beach, Va., was charged Monday with reckless handling of a firearm after doing just that a couple days earlier.
In December, Biden was selected by President Barack Obama to lead a task force on establishing new federal gun control laws. You would think that Biden would have bothered to learn something about the laws relating to this subject because of leading that task force.
