I Have A Philosophical Problem With Seat Belt Laws

But here's a warning that if you really prefer bouncing around the inside of your car in the event of an accident, be prepared for increased enforcement of the law.  From May 20, 2013 KIVI channel 6:

The Caldwell Police Department and other Idaho law enforcement agencies will be stepping up seatbelt enforcement starting May 20th through June 2nd.
Over 70 Idaho law enforcement agencies will begin dedicating extra hours and patrols to educate and enforce the state’s safety restraint law during a 14-day period including Memorial Day.

  1. I recall they always claimed "this will never be primary enforcement" to get the seatbelt laws passed.

And as usual one can't trust the State to not encroach.

(I completely oppose seatbelt laws as none of the Government's business ... and won't ride ten feet in a car without a seatbelt, nor allow a passenger in mine to do so.)

  2. I'm with you.
My daughter was wearing one, and she didn't service. I was, and I did.
But doing so was my choice.

  4. Lies told when passing seat belt laws:

It will hold down insurance rates. Didn't happen.

It will hold down taxes. Didn't happen.

Police won't set up belt enforcement traps like they set up speed traps. Remember when they said that?

  6. I think seatbelt laws are good in the sense that a driver who has lost control of the car and is swerving all over the road has a slim chance of recovering control if he is still behind the wheel, held in place by the seatbelt.

I oppose helmet laws, we need a source of young, fresh healthy organs from young men who do crazy things on motorcycles...
