I saw a very well-done video on polishing CFC. He was doing a bicycle frame and my, what an improvement! I tried the technique he showed. The results were disappointing until I remembered something I learned making telescope mirrors: polishing requires a pretty smooth finish. His bicycle frame was probably nicely finished at the factory. When I ran some #60, #320, #600, and #5000 over the surface, polishing with Mother's Mag Wheel Polish produced a nice finish. This is something so laborious that I think I will only do this to bare plates before machining.
I need to replace the belt and face sander sheets first to get down through #320, then hand power sander for #600. Hand sanding #5000 is not bad. Polishing I did by putting the polishing tool in the drill press, holding pieces in vise and lowering it down to the surface.
