If You Are Learning Machining By Following in my Blood-Stained Footprints...

Another lesson.  I was attempting to cut a piece of CFC in the mill.  For no apparent reason, once clamped down, the workpiece was at a slant.  My first assumption was that the small edge was not square.  Indeed, it did not look very square against my compound square.  So I put the suspect edge facing up and ran the 1/2" carbide endmill across it.  No better and my square confirmed that it was pretty darn square.

The workpiece was held in place by two parallels.  These are two exactly equal height steel rectangles at either side of the workpiece.  Sure enough, I had a 1" tall parallel on one side and  3/4" tall parallel on the other side.  Next time, I check these before assuming an unsquare edge.  I may nail polish numbers on the faces.
