Brownell's Having a Sale on Wilson-Rogers 8 Round Magazines for M1911s
Only a dollar off their normal price, but still cheaper than anywhere else that I could find. It is still only 9 rounds before a mag change, but the M1911 now doesn't look quite so bad compared to some 9mm alternatives.
If I were leaving for Timbuknowhere, and could only choose one pistol, and wanted to choose something for reliability, robustness, ubiquity, and effectiveness, it would be a Glock 17 or 19.
I switched out of 1911's in the mid-80's for the Glock system. I would never return to the complexity of the 1911. A Glock is an Occam's Razor solution.
