SALEM, Ore. — The husband of former Rep. Gabby Giffords plans to testify Thursday on behalf of a bill that would expand background checks for firearmsin Oregon, according to a group here that advocates for the issue.
Retired Navy Capt. Mark Kelly and Giffords founded Americans for Responsible Solutions on the second anniversary of a 2011 shooting in which Giffords, a former Democratic congresswoman from Arizona, was shot in the head and six of her constituents were killed.
Of course, the killer
passed a federal background check, because no one had involuntarily committed him. He was so scarily crazy that he was kicked out of college, conditional on completing a mental health evaluation. Too scary for college -- not scary enough to hospitalize for evaluation.
She just did the same thing in Washington.
