03/18/1973: Police charged a man, 33, with beating to death
his wife and their three small children with a hammer. He was later transferred
to a state mental hospital for evaluation. Psychiatrists determined he was “insane
at the time and unable to stand trial.” In 1975, he was “declared to be sane
enough to stand trial.” He had attempted suicide by a pill overdose. He was
later “declared sane enough to stand trial.”
