Not Alcatraz but Botany Bay

This 5/7/25 San Jose Mercury-News article is about two thugs who attempted robbery of an armed victim.  I guess the victim had a license or the article would have included charges for self-defense.   (Yes, California police departments charge victims who are carrying without a license.  How else will they stay funded?)

The sad part is that one of the thugs knows better:
"Upshaw has a 2017 robbery conviction, and has been convicted of gun possession before, according to the criminal complaint."

Instead of releasing him prematurely, perhaps the Australia model is appropriate.  We do not have a big largely empty continent available but the U.S. has lots of Pacific islands that are not occupied like the Guano Islands.  Drop them on these islands with basic tools and a year of canned food and water.  Airdrop every year until the shipments cease to be used.

Now, white collar criminals and the specially designated insurance CEO murderers/social justice warriors will have no problem paying someone to rescue them, but I rather doubt street thugs have anyone who cares about them enough to arrange a rescue.  After 20 years, they may have learned enough self-discipline to rejoin civilization.

In the meantime,  be armed for self-defense.

  1. There's also Gough (Guff) Island and Inaccessible Island southwest of Tristan Da Cunha, the most isolated bit of land in the world, but they are considered to belong to Great Britain (Where the UK is now) whether or not anyone lives on them.
