5/14/25 Realtor.com tells the sad story of a family that made major structural changes to a family home and the county reassessed it's value from $650,000 to $4 4 million.  Property values rose since the last assessment.   Their property taxes thus rose from $15,000 to $91,000 per year.

Yes, it can be surprising when your oceanfront house becomes a very valuable property.   You have become very rich.   Deal with it.
