Very Clear, Very Cold Night

Clear night, very cold. I needed gloves to climb the ladder. We have the grandkids tonight, so I showed them Jupiter, all four Galilean satellites lined up like beads on a wire, multiple dark cloud bands in the atmosphere; Venus, which is just past third quarter right now and absurdly bright, it needed a filter to bring it down; Saturn is approaching edge on with the rings; the Orion Nebula. My granddaughter recognized the four stars of the Trapezium (laid out in a trapezoid pattern) They were very pleased.
