Oakland, Cal. (1974)
01/31/1974: Someone hacked to death three people in a mortuary
as they attempting to escape their attackers. Police later arrested a man, 20,
for the murders and theft of “several bottles of embalming fluid.” His father
brought him to the police station in response to an arrest warrant for rape in
an unrelated event.
The embalming fluid theft, and the murders probably caused
by the theft, while at first bizarre, has a rational basis. Drug dealers in the
1970s used “embalming fluid” as a street name for PCP into which marijuana
cigarettes were dipped. “This eventually led to the actual use of embalming
fluid when lacing both cannabis and tobacco cigarettes.”
