Top Gun: Maverick

The critics hated it for its militaristic patriotism.  I feared an uninspired sequel.  My speech therapist recommended it.  My wife and I watched it this evening and really enjoyed it.  Amazingly enough, not one gay character and no drag queen sailors.

The opening sequence with the hypersonic stealth fighter was really impressive.  I can see why the Chinese wanted to know if there was Skunk Works assistance.

There is romance but not at steamy level that Hot Shots parodied so well with the eggs frying on the actress' belly.

  1. Meh.

The entire plot was silly. Even if the US was going to attack N. Korea over a lab, sending short-ranged carrier aircraft to do it was irrational. A B2 dropping some sort of penetrator would make more sense.

And the CGI was sloppy. Also, the idea of just jumping into an F-14 (and how did one go missing?) and flying it after a couple of decades without maintenance?

Finally, the interactions - trying way to hard to replicate the original TG, this time with racial and gender mixing

That alone would sell me a ticket.
