There's Always An Easier Way
I was trying to machine something of aluminum that was 1/2" diameter for part of its length with a slotted 3/4" hole in the other end. With a Bridgeport, no problem. But with the Sherline at .001 inches/min., it would take forever. I managed to figure an alternate way using a .75" ID, 1" OD aluminum tube, a .5" ID, .75" OD tube, and a .5" diameter rod. There is still some machining to get all these nominal diameters to fit, but much faster than machining from a solid block.
