Watcing Cable TV Ads Is Depressing
So much of the advertising is for various illnesses for which some company has a cure or treatment. While some of these are associated with bad habits (overeating, lack of exercise) many are not. Rheumatoid Arthritis is just heart-breaking, and its origins, from what I know, remains a mystery. But you only think about the human suffering involved, and it is horrifying. It is easy to not think about this when you are young and in good health; but time will catch bup to you.

I was out to dinner with a medical school classmate and his wife when the topic of her RA came up. I mentioned some of the new "biologicals" like etanercept. The next time I saw them, at another football game, she mentioned that she had begun this new program and it had had dramatic effect. It is a whole new ball game with RA. My partner's wife had it 30 years ago and was miserable. That has all changed although some older people have residual damage to joints from the early period.
