Good Thing That Discrimination Is Still Lawful, Isn't It?

The January 31, 2012 Los Angeles Times reports that a Tennessee legislator who has taken a rather active position against homosexuality was refused service in a Knoxville restaurant because of his public stance on this.  I am a firm believer in the right of a business to refuse service to a customer, even if their reasons are stupid, irrational, or bigoted.  The sky won't fall because Sen. Campfield couldn't get a meal at the Bistro at the Bijou.

  1. Freedom of association is good.

I had to resist the urge to poke some of my friends about this on Facebook, though.

They'd be incensed if a gay man/couple were refused service, "because discrimination is wrong", but applauded this.

I just want consistency, but I don't expect it any more.

(Me, I prefer nobody being refused service as long as they're not disturbing other customers, but that's just a personal preference.)

  2. It cuts both ways doesn't it? He gets to be actively against homosexuality and they get to be actively against him for it. Win win! Or lose lose depending on your point of view.
