A Proposal for How California Can Stop Mass Murders

 4/5/22 CNN:

(CNN)Police have arrested a second suspect in connection to a mass shooting in downtown Sacramento, California, this weekend that left six people dead and a chaotic crime scene littered with more than 100 shell casings.

Smiley Martin, 27, who was taken into police custody Tuesday, was found at the scene of the shooting early Sunday with "serious injuries from gunfire" and taken to a local hospital, the Sacramento Police Department said in a news release. Police "quickly identified" him as a "person of interest" and kept him under police supervision at the hospital, the release said.
According to police, Smiley Martin is the brother of Dandrae Martin, another suspect arrested Monday in connection to the shooting, which also left 12 people wounded and was one of more than 120 mass shootings in the United States this year and one of at least 10 shooting incidents over the weekend....
Multiple shooters. Those first names. Gang-related?  What can California pass to solve these crimes?
Dandrae Martin, 26, who was identified as a "related suspect," is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday after being booked on assault and illegal firearm possession charges, according to police. He was being held without bail, online jail records show. CNN has not been able to reach an attorney for him.

Maybe they can make illegal possession of a firearm illegal?  The swarm of gun control laws in California should make such crimes at least rare.

Another Huge Mass Murder--But Congress Will Not Take Action!

 12/17/21 ABC News:

OSAKA, Japan -- A fire that spread from a fourth-floor mental clinic in an eight-story building in downtown Osaka in western Japan on Friday left 24 dead in what police were investigating as a possible case of arson and murder.

Police were searching for a man in his 50s to 60s who witnesses saw carrying a paper bag from which an unidentified liquid was dripping. He may have been among the 24 dead, or is one of the three people who were resuscitated and remain in serious conditions, or may have fled, a police investigator said on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak to the media.

Fire officials who reached the building in the major business, shopping and entertainment area of Kitashinchi in Osaka found 27 people in a state of cardiac arrest, said Osaka fire department official Akira Kishimoto.

One woman was conscious and brought down by an aerial ladder from a window on the sixth floor and was being treated in a hospital, he said. Later Friday, 24 people were pronounced dead, the fire department said.

The Sign of Desperation

California Governor Newsom's reaction to Texas' abortion law which allows private citizens to sue abortion providers:

If states can shield their laws from review by federal courts, then CA will use that authority to help protect lives. We will work to create the ability for private citizens to sue anyone who manufactures, distributes, or sells an assault weapon or ghost gun kit or parts in CA.

So why not use the existing criminal statutes? Does California not know how to do this?

Could This Tragedy Have Been Prevented?

HALIFAX — A former neighbour of the gunman behind last month’s mass shooting in Nova Scotia says she reported his domestic violence and cache of firearms to the RCMP years ago and ended up leaving the community herself due to fears of his violence.

Brenda Forbes said that in the summer of 2013, she told police about reports that Gabriel Wortman had held down and beaten his common law spouse behind one of the properties he owned in Portapique, a coastal community west of Truro.

When police do not do their job, who gets punished?

So Glad Puerto Rico Has Strict Gun Control

10/15/19 Primerahora has video of a drug dealer being murdered.  Someone doesn't care what bullets cost.  I expect to see this video on NBC's next Kurd report.

California A-G Complains About Need to Do for More About Gun Violence

Three people were killed and four others injured in a shooting at a bowling alley in California, late Friday evening.
The shooting stemmed from a fight that took place between a group of people at Gable House bowling alley in Torrance, according to witnesses at the scene....
Sen. Kamala Harris tweeted that her "heart breaks for the victims," and said "we must do more to address gun violence."
"Americans should be able to go to a bowling alley and be safe," she tweeted.
Because California has no gun control laws.

Why Realistic Toy Guns and BB guns Should Be Banned

2/12/18 Baltimore Sun:
Last week, the beginning of an explosive corruption trial involving eight members of Baltimore's elite Gun Trace Task Force revealed that a handful of Baltimore cops allegedly kept fake guns in their patrol cars to plant on innocent people—a failsafe they could use if they happened to shoot an unarmed suspect, the Baltimore Sun reports.
Detective Maurice Ward, who's already pleaded guilty to corruption charges, testified that he and his partners were told to carry the replicas and BB guns "in case we accidentally hit somebody or got into a shootout, so we could plant them." The directive allegedly came from the team's sergeant, Wayne Jenkins, the Washington Post reports. Though Ward didn't say whether or not the tactic was ever used, Detective Marcus Taylor—another cop swept up in the scandal—was carrying a fake gun almost identical to his service weapon when he was arrested last year, according to the Sun.

Another Mass Murder, But Not Random

And in gun control heaven.  9/13/18 AP:
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) — A gunman killed five people, including his wife, before turning the gun on himself as a Kern County sheriff's deputy closed in Wednesday, authorities said....
"Obviously, these are not random shootings," Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood told KERO-TV. Six people died in a short amount of time, he added.
The man first showed up at a trucking business with his wife shortly before 5:30 p.m. where he confronted another man.
"The suspect, the husband, shot the person at the trucking company and then turned and shot his wife," then chased and shot another man who showed up, Youngblood said....
He then carjacked a woman who was driving her child. The woman and child escaped and the man drove to a highway where a sheriff's deputy saw him, Youngblood said.
Any guesses what the relationship between his wife and her fellow employee was?

I Feel So Much Better

9/1/18 Japan Times:
Japan is for the most part a safe country. Gun-control laws are so strict in this East Asian nation of more than 120 million that fatalities remained in single digits last year.
And yet we still feel a palpable sense of relief when we make it through any given year without a mass murderer surfacing to inflict pain and suffering on their victims’ families. Take the following cases, for example:

On Aug. 18, a former Yokohama nurse suspected of being a serial killer was served a third arrest warrant over several fatal poisonings at a hospital where she once worked. Ayumi Kuboki earlier told prosecutors she injected disinfectant into intravenous drip bags being administered to about 20 patients.
and followed by a number of other non-gun mass murders.  So much better when they use poisons, cars, and knives.

The death marks the 100th murder investigation in London this year.

That Mentally Ill Toronto Mass Murder Story Gets More Curious by the Day

7/25/18 Toronto Sun:
The man who has presented himself as the point of contact for the family of Faisal Hussain is a professional activist who has reportedly committed himself to “framing a new narrative of Muslims in Canada” and creating a “national political movement.”
Shortly after the Ontario Special Investigations Unit revealed the identity of the Danforth shooter as 29-year-old Faisal Hussain, a news release was sent out to select media attributed to the “Hussain Family”.
The family's involvement with that press release remains murky.

7/24/18 CBS News:
"At this stage, based on the state of the investigation, which is led by the Toronto police service, there is no connection between that individual and national security," Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale said.
But a law enforcement source told CBS News that Faisal Hussain visited Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) websites and may have expressed support for the terrorist group. They were looking into whether Hussain may have lived at one time in Afghanistan and possibly Pakistan, the source said. There is no indication that Hussain was directed by ISIS to carry out the attack.
But remember, it's all about the guns.

Oh, and this surprising news from 7/25/18 CTV:
The gun used to shoot 15 people on a busy Toronto street was likely obtained from a “gang-related source,” according to a person familiar with the case.
CP24 safety specialist Cam Woolley says a police source has told him the semi-automatic handgun used in the shooting is illegal in Canada and was originally from the United States. American authorities are helping track the gun’s exact origin.
Wow!  A murderer gets his gun from a gang.  Doubtless they did not know they were breaking the law by selling a smuggled gun.  And even more unbelievable:
CTV News has further learned that ammunition and large-capacity magazines were found by police officers searching the apartment Faisal Hussain shared with his parents. Police are also looking into the connection between Hussain’s brother, who is currently in a coma, and a 2017 seizure of more than 30 guns in Pickering, Ont.
AFP now reports ISIS is saying Faisal is one of their operations:
Montreal (AFP) - Canadian authorities said Wednesday they have no evidence to substantiate a claim by the Islamic State group that the gunman who killed two people in a Toronto rampage was an IS fighter.
The group's Amaq news agency said the gunman, identified by police as 29-year-old Faisal Hussain, was an IS "soldier" responding to its calls for attacks on nationals from countries fighting the group in Iraq and Syria.
I can believe it or not.

Color Me Startled

7/23/18 Fox News:
Canadian authorities identified the gunman who killed two people and injured 13 others in a lively Toronto neighborhood Sunday night as 29-year-old Faisal Hussain, whose family claimed had suffered from "severe mental health challenges."
In case you wondered, Canada followed the U.S. down the same inhumane and dangerous path on deinstitutionalization of the mentally ill, but this will be evidence that Canada needs more gun control laws.

This Must Be Fake News

7/23/18 CTV News:
Gunfire rang out along a busy Toronto street Sunday night leaving three people dead, including the 29-year-old man alleged to have been the shooter.
Toronto police say a total of 14 people were shot by a man with a handgun. According to Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit, two people were killed by a man who “fired shots at groups of people several times” while walking along Danforth Avenue.
Impossible.  Gun control advocates insist Canada is safe because of their strict gun control laws.

Perhaps Britons Can No Longer Be Trusted With Guns

7/8/18 New York Daily News reports that British soccer fans responded to victory over Sweden by trashing ambulances and an Ikea store (Ikea was originally a Swedish company). http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/ny-news-england-sweden-07082018-story.html Has the absence of guns produced a juvenile population?

Mass Murder: Shotgun

Not random.  6/28/18 Chicago Tribune:
At least five people were killed and several others were “gravely injured” in a shooting Thursday afternoon at the Capital Gazette in Anne Arundel County, authorities said.
A shooter is in custody, police said.
“This was a targeted attack on the Capital Gazette,” said Anne Arundel County Deputy Police Chief William Krampf. “This person was prepared today to come in. He was prepared to shoot people.”
The suspect is [redacted], a 38-year-old Laurel man with a longstanding dispute with the Capital, according to law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation....
n 2012, [redacted] brought a defamation suit against the columnist and the paper’s former editor and publisher. In 2015, Maryland’s second-highest court upheld a ruling in favor of the Capital Gazette and a former reporter who were accused by [redacted] of defamation.
Police said a shotgun was used in the incident. They said officers did not exchange gunfire with the suspect, who was now being interrogated. They said officers had recovered “smoke grenades” used by the suspect in the building, located at 888 Bestgate Road. About 170 people were inside at the time of the shooting, police said.
So did the paper call the murderer a hothead?

Shotgun, not an "assault weapon."  Try and ban shotguns.  Watch where that goes.

Fortunately Maryland has very strict gun laws, so this obviously could not have happened.

In any case, not Trump's fault.

6/29/18 New York Times reports the guy was giving plenty of signals that this was going to turn bad.  If only Maryland had gun control laws!

Think of All the Crimes Our Police Can Solve If Not Watching Their Backs for Armed Criminals!

6/17/18 Daily Mail:
Less than one in 20 street robberies and burglaries are being solved in the UK, shocking new figures have revealed.
Official police data shows that just four per cent of robberies and three per cent of burglaries were solved in England and Wales in 2017.
The figures will fuel concerns that there is a crisis in the nation's policing, with one MP describing London as 'the Wild West'.

Obviously Fake News

NBC Philadelphia 6/17/18 reports on a mass shooting at a Trenton,  NJ art festival.  Bringing culture to the oppressed  does not seem to be solving the violence problem.  In a gun control heaven, New Jersey.
