I have been running linuxCNC 2.7 for some time with great success. Suddenly, Chromium will not run. I tried to get an update, then reinstalled it. Finally, I gave up and installed Konqueror which seems to be the preferred browser. It opens up web pages okay but search in the URL line does nothing. (And it turns out that search from Google page does nothing.)
So, I downloaded the linuxCNC 2.9 ISO to a DVD and tried to boot from it with the plan of doing a fresh install. I have this antique Optiplex 960 configured to boot first from CD drive but it does not boot from it.
Mint is easier, and it even has a version from "really old" hardware, though I'm using the standard version.
ReplyDeleteLinuxCNC is built on debian with some real-time kernel specific changes. I suspect this is a quirk of my desktop not booting from a DVD-RW. There are apparently problems with this on the Optiplex 9600. Next step: put ISO on USB drive.
DeleteDepending on what platform you're using to create the bootable media, I had a lot of trouble with Etcher on Windows, but got it to work (with mint) using Rufus.
