An 80-year-old California liquor store owner was caught on video opening fire at a would-be robber with a shotgun, prompting the suspect to run out of his business screaming "he shot my arm off!"

"The other men police say were inside the getaway vehicle, who also were found at the hospital, were identified as Justin Johnson, 22, of Inglewood, Jamar Williams, 27, of Los Angeles, and Davon Broadus, 24, of Las Vegas. ...

"The BMW SUV they were traveling in was previously reported stolen and found to contain numerous stolen firearms – and now each of those men are facing charges of robbery and conspiracy and are being held in lieu of $500,000 bail, the sheriff’s office added."

Jamar?  Davon?  Why do so many of these idiot bad guys have such silly names?  Do the names impair real employment?  Or is this just evidence of impaired mothers giving birth to impaired children?

Two Murder Convictions. Why NOT Release Her?

The person before the parole panel in June 2019 was tall and slim, in far better shape than 81 years of life might have suggested. Mild and polite, the supplicant seemed nothing like the murderer who had spent decades in prison, first for shooting a girlfriend dead in 1963, and then for stabbing another in 1985, stuffing her corpse into a bag and leaving it in Central Park.

“I’m no longer that person,” the inmate told the parole board commissioners. Despite misgivings, they would rule in favor of release.



Two and a half years after leaving Cayuga Correctional Facility, Marceline Harvey was accused again, charged with killing Susan Leyden, 68. Parts of Ms. Leyden’s body were found in March inside a shopping cart in East New York, stuffed in a bag. In Ms. Harvey’s apartment, investigators found a bloody mop, a tub full of towels and a box for an electric saw....

Decades worth of police documents and court records detail the life of Ms. Harvey, a transgender woman who transitioned at some point after her release from prison.

Bad news, progressives.  People who commit murder are not necessarily to be trusted.  People who pull down their pants and cannot see reality are not likely to be strong on rational behavior.

Three States Have Declared Monkeypox State of Emergency

 Guess which three?  California, Illinois, and New York.  This is a disease spread almost entirely by sexual contact.  It is largely men having sex with men (MSM, the new less judgmental form of the word "homosexual").  This has been known for some time.  There are advantages to changing sexual partners less often than you change your socks.  The spread of an STD increases with the square of the frequency of different partners per time period.  Four different partners a month increases the incidence by 16x.  Four a day is a bit worse.  

I know that there are gay men who do not spend hours each day at "glory holes," but there are enough that AIDS, syphilis, and now monkeypox are very disproportionately MSM problems.  It is really sad, but sexual fidelity (or at least keeping the number per week down) has some real advantages.

A Marvelous Explanation of Defense Procurement Economics

I have mentioned this guy before.  He is a defense procurement specialist from somewhere Down Under (Aussie or Kiwi), and this video explains why comparing dollars spent on defense spending by nation understates how much the U.S. taxpayers get for that pile of money.  There are economic multiplier effects (manufacturing here creates taxable corporate income, personal income, capital gains, and lots of high-paying jobs.  

Then he explains why so many nations buy American weapon systems: why our scale of domestic production and leading-edge technology makes other nations' domestic production too costly.  I notice that when he discusses scale of production advantages he often includes World War II and modern production lines as a subtle reminder that we are really good at some things, still.  Like building the best fighter aircraft in the world.  Not cheap but as the Ukraine War is showing, cheap is not enough.

"Three children and their mother were found dead at a home on Whaley Street in Danbury Wednesday night. The official results of the autopsy are pending, but police said it appears that the mother strangled her three children, then took her own life."
