Back in the 1970's, they had what was called "Donkey Basketball". The brought in a bunch of donkeys with rubber shoes to our gymnasium and had a game with teachers vs. parents. The players were responsible for picking up any "droppings" that their own animal left.
ReplyDeleteI was born in 1960 so I was kind of young, but I do have memories of them doing this several times to raise money for the sports and music programs in our small school.
Paraplegics and amputees play wheelchair basketball. And a long time ago, I saw a circus act - black kids on unicycles "playing basketball" (zipping around, passing a basketball back and forth, and maybe taking a few shots).
ReplyDeleteDidn't we have donkey basketball at John Adams way back in the day? I know there was wheelchair basketball.
ReplyDeleteI attended Lincoln. I was not paying attention to sports at the time.
DeleteI wasn't paying attention to sports either, at that age. I do recall hearing about it and seeing an article in the John Adams newspaper. It seemed to be something more like the Harlem Globetrotters coming to town to play an exhibition game with the local NBA team.
