Stories That Make My Day

An American security expert was targeted by North Korean hackers ... so he responded by turning off North Korea's entire Internet

It turns out that North Korean uses its own variant of Linux which is derived from an old and apparently vulnerable version.

North Korea is Running Out of Patience

10/26/19 AP:
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea on Sunday said it’s running out of patience with the United States over what it described as hostile policies and unilateral disarmament demands, and warned that a close personal relationship between the leaders alone wouldn’t be enough to prevent nuclear diplomacy from derailing.
In a statement published by Pyongyang’s official Korean Central News Agency, senior North Korean official Kim Yong Chol said there has been no substantial progress in relations despite warm ties between leader Kim Jong Un and President Donald Trump. He said the persisting hostility means “there can be the exchange of fire at any moment.”
At which point about 500 megatons will detonate over North Korea and they will cease to be the protection racket that they are.  Trump is driving them mad, and any steps they take will likely leave Short Fat directing a nation of ashes from his underground bunker.  Attacking South Korea or Japan are not safe; the U.S. would incinerate North Korea.  Any attack on the U.S. could be damaging since at least one ICBM might arrive and destroy an American city, but North Korea would cease to exist with 20 minutes.

Ever Had a Bad Performance Review?

It could be worse.  5/31/19 Reuters:
SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea executed its nuclear envoy to the United States as part of a purge of officials who steered negotiations for a failed summit between leader Kim Jong Un and U.S. President Donald Trump, a South Korean newspaper said on Friday.

Trump's Speech at the UN

Okay, it's Monday morning quarterbacking, and not like any conservative listens to me:

"In 1945, the U.S. used nuclear weapons to end World War II by utterly destroying two cities of what is now a peaceful and ally.  In retrospect, this may not have been the best way to end World War II, but it seemed like the best way to save millions of American lives, and at least millions of Japanese lives."

This makes all the non-TDS left coo.

"The world has changed since then.  If needed to protect ourselves for a nuclear-armed enemy making continual threats and provocative actions, we can easily make all of North Korea into Hiroshima.  If Russia and China find that a disturbing possibility, as they well should, it is time for them to stop this madman."

Please Bring Back Your Nukes

9/4/17 Washington Post:
South Korea’s defense minister on Monday said it was worth reviewing the redeployment of American tactical nuclear weapons to the Korean Peninsula to guard against the North, a step that analysts warn would sharply increase the risk of an accidental conflict.
I am skeptical it would increase risk.  Short Fat only responds to serious threats.  Thinking that an attack on South Korea could end with capital reduced to scrap might encourage a little more thought before making threats.

Hitler With Worse Hair

7/19/17 Fox News:
Kim Jong Un's brutal North Korean regime shot so-called "criminals" to death in schoolyards and fish markets in a twisted attempt to create an "atmosphere of fear" throughout the dictatorship, a Wednesday report from a human rights group revealed.
The report, released by The Transnational Justice Working Group in Seoul, gathered information from more than 300 North Korean refugees who witnessed the regime's firing squad executing criminals in public areas to attract large crowds and instill fear in its citizens.
"In ordinary areas outside the prison system, our interviewees stated that public executions take place near river banks, in river beds, near bridges, in public sports stadiums, in the local marketplace, on school grounds in the fringes of the city, or on mountainsides," the report stated.

North Korea

I get a bit of survivalist email focused on EMP and nuclear war, which I generally ignore because it seems unlikely.  So imagine my surprise to read this 3/29/17 The Hill article by R. James Woolsey and a lesser known public official asserting that North Korea probably has the capability to deliver fission and possibly fusion bombs on the U.S.--perhaps even a crippling EMP attack from their two satellites.  I keep hoping that the Air Force's robotic space plane  has satellite killer capacity.

This isn't just paranoia promoted by our military-industrial complex.  Japan is doing mass evacuation drills in preparation for North Korean attack,  Japan is discussing revising their Constitution to allow a pre-emptive strike.
