Pegboard Hanger

I am organizing my tools.  What sort of pegboard holder do you use for open end wrenches?

  1. Whatever supports the magnetic strip.

  2. I keep my open end wrenches in a drawer in my tool chest, but if I were to use a peg board for them, I guess I'd use a "fork" type hook. You might find some special peg board hood for them at Lowes or Sears or Amazon.

BTW - You're my hero for organizing your workbench. I can't keep mine straight to save my life.

  3. If using pegboard, look for a hanging tray that has slots for each wrench. These tend to also be used for drawer wrench collections. Make sure that your wrenches fit the tray, as width and length may vary from brand to brand for the same size tool. The problem comes when you have multiples of the same wrench. Actually, you should have two of each size, to handle nut and bolt assemblies.
Sears always had lots of accessories for tool storage for Craftsman Tools.
The major advantage for pegboard tool storage is it should be very easy to see if something is missing. If using just a hanging hook for a tool, outlining the actual tool helps a lot. If the standard brown, paint it white. The paint protects the board, and makes it easy to clean greasy handprints, etc. Use gloss or semi-gloss so it can be cleaned properly.

  4. BTW, double open-ended wrenches are not common. Most are box/open combos. Double box, or open, wrenches are different sizes for each end. That was an economy move, back when tools were very expensive, and/or odd sizes. I've got a few old ones like that that I sort-of inherited.

  5. You must mean a wrench that is open end on both sides (different sizes) as opposed to one that is the same size on both ends but one side is boxed (closed 6 or 12 pt). Obviously a box end would just hang on that end.

For both sides open use two of the peg rods (or whatever they are called) and set the wrench horizontal across the two. Usually use rods that are long (deep) enough to do several wrenches if you have several to hang. That's what I do anyways....

  6. Longer ones, and lay the wrench's sideways on them. Two holders, about 4 holes apart (more or less depending on wrench size) and then lay the wrench's on top, larger in back and getting smaller towards the front. About six wrench's for each pair of holders.
