I am parodying the famous, "What this country needs is a good five cent cigar" statement. Shall Not Be Questioned has posted this amusing 1897 Sears Roebuck ad in the "Department of Revolvers" with the cheapest mail order revolver being their 68 cent model.
It is astonishing to remember when 68 cents for a manufactured good was possible, and no one thought selling handguns by mail was a problem.

If I recall, the GCA 68 was just the first successful attempt to end mail order gun sales, and that the idea had been pushed unsuccesfully for years.
