Good Jonah Goldberg Article About "Syria's Religious War" in National Review Online Today

He makes the point that what started out as a somewhat liberal and secular opposition to Assad has turned into a Shiite vs. Sunni religious war -- and there is almost certainly no positive result for the U.S., no matter who wins.  I would make the point that as long as Islamic fanatics are killing each other, they are too busy to be trying to kill us.  It's tragic for the non-combatants in the way, but short of occupation and imperialism, I don't see a way to stop this madness.

  1. The terrible thing about it is you can't even allow refugees from such a religious war, since you won't know if you're getting people who can live in a diverse society or getting islamists who are regrouping after a reverse.

Bush the Younger was ridiculed and vilified for saying "If you aren't for us, you're against us", but if Western Civ grows any weaker Leftists will be amazed that they will have to choose sides in such a reprehensible conflict, because there are no neutrals in a religious war.
