The Soft Bigotry of Low Expectations

6/10/26 Philadelphia Inquirer writes about grade inflation in Philadelphia schools. Teachers are upset because students who aeldom show up for classes are passing. 

A fourth teacher who has worked in multiple types of schools in Philadelphia said the practice is not limited to the district.

She most recently taught at a city charter and said some of her middle-grades students were at kindergarten reading and math levels.

A combination of administration pressure to raise grades and sometimes administrators just altering the grades to a passing level means kids are moving up through the grades without acquiring the necessary skills or learning important life lessons, like showing up for classes.

I had my suspicions ad to what is driving this confirmed deeper in the article:

“The gap was huge,” the fourth teacher said. “The school’s explanation is that there’s a school-to-prison pipeline, and the older students are, the less likely they are to graduate. But they’re not meeting standards. The gaps are huge. It was very shocking to me how they would just pass the kids. I’m a parent, and I want my kids to be prepared properly.”

Everyone knows this whole "school-to-prison pipeline" idea was predicated on high discipline rates for black and Hispanic boys.  That failure to learn self-discipline mostly prepares them for criminal behavior could not possibly be part of the pipeline, could it? This insistence on meeting standards of benefit is racist leads to unprepared kids going to at worst jail.

What a Shocker: Racial Discrimination is Illegal

The Wisconsin Supreme Court struck down a state-funded scholarship program Thursday that awarded financial aid to college students based on certain racial categories — a decision that drew praise from conservative legal groups.

Dan Lennington, an attorney at the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty, which represented taxpayers in the case, celebrated the ruling as a “major win.” 

“Wisconsin Supreme Court holds that [Gov. Tony] Evers Admin cannot offer scholarships based on race. This is a huge win for equality & provides a ROADMAP for Wisconsin Taxpayers to challenge many other programs worth BILLIONS,” he wrote on X. 

Sarah Parshall Perry, an attorney and vice president of Defending Education, also praised the ruling in an X post Thursday.

“The way to stop discriminating on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race,” Perry wrote. “Wisconsin got the message. Their Supreme Court just ruled the governor cannot administer scholarship opportunities based on race.”

 This is a sensitive subject for me because when I graduated from high school 27th in a class of about 1000, it seemed as though poor white kids were outside the scope of what university knowledge. I had a classmate of East Indian origin, back when East Indians were considered a victim group, who ended up with a full-ride scholarship to one of the Poison Ivy League universities.

If scholarships are awarded based on poverty or socioeconomic class, this will still award a lot to blacks and Hispanics, but not Robert L. Johnson's kids.

My wife and i were at Home Depot yesterday. While off looking for something, my wife struck up a conversation with a black woman who works there. (My wife can strike up a conversation with a telephone pole.) Being of a similar age, they were exchanging warm memories of the Bicentennial, which for me involved firing beer cans out to sea from a friend's homemade mortar. (Still rising when lost to sight.) This led to a sentimental discussion of D-Day and the sacrifices of those who served on Omaha Beach.

We have more in common than not.  Ignore race-baiters like Ibrahim Kendi.

5/11/26 SCOTUSBlog: Alabama adopted new non-racially discriminatory district lines in 2013, which of course infuriated the party which caused Congress to pass the Voting Rights Acts in 1965. which The courts blocked the new maps because Democrats are dependent on racist districts.

The Court just applied last week's decision to Alabama.  Thry are now allowed to use the 2013 map.

Wesley Lowery—the winner of a Pulitzer Prize and a George Polk Award, and whose work in Ferguson, Missouri, in 2014, chronicled the organizing power of Black Lives Matter—is, at thirty-four, one of the most recognized journalists in America. He has reported for the Washington Post and CBS News. He is the author of two books: They Can’t Kill Us All (2016), about unarmed Black men killed by police, and American Whitelash (2023), a history of violent white resistance to people of color. Among young reporters, he is perhaps best known for questioning traditional journalistic objectivity, noting its failures to reckon with racism.

But for some women in journalism, his standing is more complicated. Imani Moise, a Wall Street Journal reporter, remembers that when she met up with him at a bar, in December of 2018, for what she thought would be a professional conversation, he’d ordered her a cocktail before she arrived. Olivia Messer—a journalist who is now the editor in chief of the Barbed Wire, an independent outlet focused on Texas—recalled that, in January of 2020, at a happy hour with Lowery, he was ready with more alcohol every time she returned to the table. In the spring of 2022, after two drinks, a journalist with whom Lowery matched on Bumble said that she had reached her limit, and he entreated her to get a third. (This journalist spoke on the condition of anonymity, because even a first name would make her easily identifiable, and she feared how her family would react.) A writer and researcher noticed that, in February of 2024, when she and Lowery went to a bar, he had a drink waiting for her whenever she got up to use the bathroom. (This woman, too, did not want to be named, because of the toll she said the experience has taken on her mental health.) In each case, these women wound up leaving with Lowery, who they said then sexually assaulted  them.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Jefferson County judge has sentenced a convicted felon to 30 years in prison, declining to follow a jury’s recommendation of 65 years in a case involving robbery, kidnapping, sodomy and sexual abuse.

Christopher Thompson, 24, was sentenced on Feb. 2 after a December conviction tied to a 2023 attack in which prosecutors said he abducted a woman, robbed her and sodomized her twice.

Court documents say Thompson kidnapped the woman in her own vehicle and forced her to perform oral sex on him in a school parking lot. Then, he drove her to an ATM, robbed the woman, drove back to the school lot and sodomized her at gunpoint again.

Thompson's sentencing hearing was marked by repeated disruptions, profanity and direct insults toward Judge Tracy Davis.

“Before we even get appearances, Mr. Thompson, I’m going to need you to be respectful,” Davis said.

“I ain’t doing nothing. Eat my d**k,” Thompson responded.

Moments later, the exchange escalated.

“It’s fine. Okay? It’s fine,” Davis said.

“If I could spit on you, I would,” Thompson replied.

“At the end of the day, I’m the one with the pen,” Davis said.

“I don’t care,” Thompson said.

Despite the continued outbursts, the court proceeded with sentencing. Prosecutors urged Davis to impose the jury’s recommended 65-year sentence.

“I don’t have sympathy for nobody. I don’t have sympathy for you, the victim, the victim’s family, I don’t care. Boo hoo,” Thompson said during the hearing.

Davis ultimately imposed a 30-year sentence, citing Thompson’s age and the possibility of rehabilitation — even as Thompson continued interrupting.

“I don’t care. I don’t care,” Thompson said.

“Unfortunately he fell through the cracks and ended up in this court as an 18 or 19-year-old,” Davis said. “This court does not believe Mr. Thompson, if given the resources that he can get while incarcerated, is beyond being rehabilitated.”

One of the longstanding hopes of having women on juries and the bench was treating rape as a serious crime. The judge's comments make it clear that she sees Thompson as a victim because he is black. Say no to racism.

The Supply of Racism is So Limited That it Requires Manufacturing

2/2/26 Free Beacon recounts the story of a widely reported racist incident from 2021 that a racially mixed jury has concluded never happened. 

"The ruling followed a civil trial in October 2025, where the jury determined that Cole and Smith cooked up the scheme to raise their public profiles during the height of the Black Lives Matter movement and to rake in money through GoFundMe."

Is there racism against Blacks in America? Yes. But the constant need to make up such incidents suggests it is in short supply compared to what some people want.  

Is there racism against Whites and Asians? Yes, and universities have argued in favor of it before the Supreme Court. I no longer pay any more attention to cries of racist than "fascist," a word so widely and wrongly applied as to mean "not prepared to help me loot others."

"SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Reparations for Black San Franciscans are back on the table after the Board of Supervisors gave final approval Tuesday of an ordinance to create a fund aimed at addressing harms caused by past discriminatory city policies.

"The measure does not allocate any initial city dollars, a move that may have helped secure support from the board's moderates after repeated years of city budget shortfalls. Instead, the ordinance establishes a framework to receive future contributions - whether through city appropriations or private donations."

How quintessentially progressive.   A program with no funding yet.  I suppose if the progressive billionaires want to fund it, there is no equal protection violation on the revenue side but there is on the administration side.

Remember: slavery was never lawful in San Francisco or California.   San Francisco is also remarkable in having an 1850s civil suits by a black woman for discrimination on a streetcar which she won.

Chicago Police Ignore Carry Licenses of Blacks

10/25/25 CBS News:

An investigation by CBS News Chicago uncovered several times where police stopped Black gun owners for minor traffic violations and then charged them with felonies -- even though they had legal firearm licenses.

Lots of examples of black licensees who provided their licenses to police which show up in arrest records after traffic stops.  Make no mistake about it, gun control is about disarming law-abiding black people.  (Black gang members might be dangerous.)

Why Anti-Semitism Matters

 Powerful presentation by the late Rabbi Sacks of Britain explaining why anti-Semitism should not be not just a concern for Jews, but everyone.  It is a canary in the mine that scapegoating has become a way of explaining why group A is not doing well rather than asking if group A has been doing something stupid to itself.  You see this with other forms of racial hatred: are cultural problems in some urban communities creating poverty, violence, and educational failure, or can we blame systemic racism (which has been legally prohibited and generally derided by nearly all Americans for decades now).

WARMINGTON: You can bring mini axe to rally — as long as you are sacred firekeeper

Toronto Police removed the handcuffs and returned the hatchet to the man in an orange shirt with no charges... 

Even if the public has an axe to grind with the decision, Toronto Police stand behind their call to return a hatchet to a protester they had in handcuffs.  

Officers determined the axe was ceremonial and not used as a weapon or to threaten anyone,” Toronto Police spokesperson Stephanie Miceli said. “There are no grounds to lay charges.” 

The article goes to explain:

Sa’d said it was later explained to her the man was a “traditional firekeeper” but she did note there was no traditional fire-burning anywhere in sight.  

Admittedly irritated at first, she acknowledges it’s not only purportedly legal in the Criminal Code of Canada to carry around a hatchet as long as it’s not used in a crime or for defensive purposes, under city of Toronto rules, there is also special status for Indigenous sacred fire and firekeepers. 

Even Inanimate Objects Are Racist

After the Civil War, laws mandated racial segregation in public facilities across many U.S. cities, requiring separate bathrooms, schools and waiting rooms for people of color and white people. While the last of this legislation, known as the Jim Crow laws, was overturned in the 1960s, the built environment continues to impose boundaries that make certain races feel unwelcome, said Shawhin Roudbari, an associate professor in CU Boulder’s Program in Environmental Design.

Roudbari has been studying how design elements can perpetuate racial inequality in the U.S., hoping to shed light on systemic issues. 

Currently, he is piloting a study exploring how the space and buildings at U.S. college campuses reinforce racial inequality.

“I first became interested in this area because college campuses are a place where young people come during an identity-forming time in their lives,” Roudbari said. “It’s important to learn how they perceive the space around them in a place they have to live for multiple years.”

CU Boulder Today sat down with Roudbari to discuss his research on campus design, racial inequity in architecture and what inclusive design looks like. 

Many don’t think about that when considering architecture. They might think of accessibility issues, like the presence of ramps for people with disabilities, but not about race. 

But architectural design often reflects social hierarchies, and those hierarchies are frequently tied to the history of Western colonization and racism. 

For example, certain classroom setups, like the auditorium-style lecture hall where students surround a professor, portray the teacher as the center of power standing in the middle of the room. This way of learning was made mainstream by Western colonization, which eliminated enslaved or otherwise colonized Indigenous communities as part of attempts to extract wealth or advance supremacist projects like Manifest Destiny (a belief that American settlers were destined to expand across North America). In other non-Western traditions, learning tends to be more communal and decentralized, where people sit around in a circle and share their expertise.

Do the following phrases mean anything to this idiot: "Indian chief", "Chinese emperor", "caliph"?

In your recent study, you interviewed 20 CU Boulder community members, including white people and people of color, about how they perceived the campus. What did you find? 

One issue that came up a lot is visibility. The campus has a lot of big, open spaces, which is great for some. But others pointed out that on a campus with a predominantly white demographic, people of color stand out more in open spaces.   

Many people of color expressed that they felt a sense of being noticed and watched on this campus, because the environment provided little refuge for them to be less visible or even hide in this predominantly white space.

The big lawn in front of the Norlin Library is one example. Students there enjoy playing games or sun tanning. When most people there are white, and my skin color is a bit different, the contrast becomes enough to make people uncomfortable.   

This would be a problem in classrooms, too, maybe even more so.  Solution is simple: do not attend colleges with white people! Clearly, we left that behind with Brown v. Board of Education (1954).

Green spaces like this are common across college campuses in the US. Can you elaborate more on how this landscape can be problematic? 

Manicured lawns on U.S. college campuses have roots in our imagination of what elite schools in Europe look like. We want to build a campus that looks like Oxford University or Cambridge University to convey a superior status. So, even though they seem like neutral design elements, they can make non-white students feel alienated because these spaces weren’t designed for them. The architecture of a campus can send subtle messages about who belongs there and who doesn’t.

Excuse me while I laugh.  I thought it was about creating a peaceful environment.  Does any non-white student walk onto campus and say, "This place looks like Oxford.  They do not want me here."

When I first went to university, I was a lower socioeconomic status white person.  (The people that ran universities then could not imagine that concept.)  Was it different?  Yes.  I was grateful for the opportunity to get an education on my way to becoming a research chemist.  Do black freshmen show up on campus and say, "This place does not want me here."  They may not feel like they fit in.  My first year at USC, I felt the same way.  But I did not let that stop me.  They wanted me there or they would not have admitted me and provided a modest scholarship to make up the difference between the scholarship provided by California and USC's hefty tuition.  (I could have attended UCLA.  But the gap between what California would pay and UCLA's much more modest tuition meant that USC was the cheap alternative.)

Why Is Higher Education Hated by Many Americans

 9/30/25 Campus Reform:

A Fort Hays State University (FHSU) employee is facing backlash after she labeled White men the “most dangerous animals on the planet” and called Charlie Kirk’s assassination “karma.” 

Nuchelle Chance, an assistant psychology professor at FHSU in Hays, Kansas, posted the controversial statements on social media after Kirk’s death. 

“Me thinks the word ‘karma’ is appropriate. Sad all the way around,” she posted on Facebook under the name “NuNu LA Chance.”

Chance doubled down on her comments in a video she posted to TikTok Sept. 29, stating, “It’s always ironic that the shooters, the perpetrators of these mass incidents, they always tend to fit a certain demographic…White American men…they’re the perpetrators of these crimes…the average person sees that and understands that.”

If she misses "mass shooters" a popular claim in Progressiveland, this Statista report answers that:

Race of mass shooters reflects the U.S. population

Broadly speaking, the racial distribution of mass shootings mirrors the racial distribution of the U.S. population as a whole. While a superficial comparison of the statistics seems to suggest African American shooters are over-represented and Latino shooters underrepresented, the fact that the shooter’s race is unclear in around nine percent of cases, along with the different time frames over which these statistics are calculated, means no such conclusions should be drawn. Conversely, looking at the mass shootings in the United States by gender clearly demonstrates that the majority of mass shootings are carried out by men.

Call the people who pay most of the taxes in the U.S. (or who are married to them), “most dangerous animals on the planet.”  That's a winning strategy.  Now if anyone pointed out which sexual and racial group commits the highest per capita murder rate, that would be racism.

Yes, keep demonstrating what taxpayers are funding, and ask why DEI is regarded as just another excuse for ignorant racism.

 

Orange Man Bad Interfering With Their Culture

Oppression straight up.  8/21/25 Fox News reports no murders in DC in a week.

Washington, D.C.'s Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) confirmed to Fox News Digital on Thursday that there has not been a homicide in the city in more than a week.

""[T]here have been no recorded homicides in the city for the past week," said public information officer Michael Russo via email. "Our last recorded homicide was August 13th.""

  Is that good news?  According to DC Police website the 2025 homicide data year to date is 101, so about three per week so far thus year.  Or perhaps flooding DC with police and falling crime rates are a coincidence  

It really is true.  If Trump came up with a cure for cancer, progressives would be whining about oncologists' unemployment rates.  These people have no shame or conscience. 

Some of the problem is that progressives have chosen to identify the aspects of inner city thuggishness as authentic blackness.  That the victims of this crap are usually black does not matter. Just keep repeating "Orange Man Bad.  America is Racist."

Racial Discrimination as Public Policy

I posted a while back about Hennepin Co. (Minnesota) issuing guidance to prosecutors to consider the race of the accused in bail setting.  This is grossly and obviously wrong that only Democrats and 1950s Southerners (but I repeat myself) could imagine this was either lawful or appropriate. 

5/5/25 Department of Justice press release:

"Today, the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division announced an investigation into the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office, led by County Attorney Mary Moriarty, to determine whether the Office is depriving its residents of their federal rights to be free from race-based prosecutorial decision making. According to public reporting, the Hennepin County Attorney recently adopted a policy requiring her prosecutors to consider “racial identity” during prosecutorial decision making, including when negotiating plea agreements that influence the burdens that criminal defendants face, and the benefits that they receive, in criminal prosecutions. The investigation announced today will involve a comprehensive review of all relevant Hennepin County Attorney’s Offices policies and practices that may involve illegal consideration of race."

Notice "may."  Like the sky may be blue. 

When will the left ever figure put that supporting racism is a non-starter with pretty much anyone outside the academy?  Again, they are taking the 20% against Trump's 80%.

Their defense  hwill be that once upon a time, race was overtly considered relevant (although I am not sure much in Minnesota in the last 50 years).  It was wrong then and it is no less wrong now.

Who will be the big lovers from this?  The victims of black criminals, who are usually black.  White liberal guilt is such a powerful tool for alleviating white privileged guilt while injuring black people. 

How Equity Makes Blue Cities Hellholes

This is one example.  Six criminals charged with at least 70 racial motivated robberies.  12/15/21 KTVU:

"SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Jose police on Wednesday announced the arrest of six men who allegedly committed dozens of robberies, burglaries and thefts since last year, including many that targeted people of Asian descent.

"The suspects have been charged for more than 70 cases that occurred between October 2020 and this September, and hate crime enhancements have been added because the men frequently targeted Asian women, some of whom ended up injured in robberies, police said."

This was slightly remarkable in being targeted as Asians.  Most victims of violent crime are neighbors of the savages.  Thus, unsurprisingly, black people are the major victims of black criminals.   The net effect of using kid gloves against black offenders in the name of racial equity is to disproportionately injure that vast majority of well-behaved black Americans. 

I would surmise that knowledge of the disproportionate percentage of black offenders provokes racial fear. I read some years back that a black man in a suit would often have trouble getting a taxi in DC, a city whose taxi drivers are almost entirely black, often African immigrants trying to climb the ladder of success here. 

Abandoning racial equity for a traditional model of locking up violent offenders would likely both reduce suffering in the black community as well as the overall society.  Reducing racial fear of black people seems another likely consequence.  Unsurprisingly,  the left prefers reducing its white privilege guilt.

This Was So Absurd That I Looked Up the Law

California has passed a law that has different fines for speeding depending on your income level. 4/4/25 FrontPage says it is racial in purpose.  Why? Are rich people more of a hazard than poor people? The text of the law tells you why income is the defining rule for different fines:

(d) However, traditional enforcement methods have had a well-documented disparate impact on communities of color, and implicit or explicit racial bias in police traffic stops puts drivers of color at risk.

Yes, because they cannot say, "Blacks and Hispanics should have lesser fines than white people," they are using income as a proxy for race.  If 1948 Alabama had assessed higher fines on sharecroppers for late library book returns, there was no way this would have been tolerated by the federal courts.  

There are days that I think occupation and military government is the only solution to the ferocious racism of California government.

If speeding is a safety hazard, California is going to increase traffic accident death rates for blacks and Hispanics, as well as the people who are their neighbors-- who are disproportionately black and Hispanic.

This is astonishingly close to the Alabama Constitution (1901) provision that disqualified voters based on convictions for "moral turpitude" which disproportionately disqualified blacks.  One difference: the Alabama Constitutional Convention had the good sense not to say why.  It did not survive Hunter v. Underwood (1985).
