An Immigration Arrest Democrats Can Support

4/18/25 CBS News reports on a van full of ammo:
"Both men inside the van - Caesar Ramon Martinez Solis, 41, and Humberto Ivan Amador Gavira, 24, both of Mexico - presented United States Visas as their forms of identification. .

"Neither man's documentation permitted them to be possession of weapons or ammunition, even for hunting or sporting purposes, according to the federal affidavit.

"The Fremont County Sheriff's Office then detained both men and contacted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel. "

They seemed to have no illegal intent.  I cannot picture how they smuggle so much across the border.  Nonetheless,  obey the laws of the nation you are visiting.

UPDATE: A reader points out that taking foreigners here on student visas or tourist visas to a gun range puts both of you at legal risk.  How do gun ranges that cater to tourists get away with this?

  1. Interesting!
There was a fellow at professional conferences I attended years ago who was fond of taking interested foreign attendees to his farm for target shooting. And when I lived abroad one of the things that people would often tell me about their visits to the US was that someone had taken then shooting –– an activity that they could never have done at home.
But I see from a little reading after seeing the above that anyone in the US on a non-immigrant visa is very likely a "prohibited person" WRT even handing a firearm or ammunition.

    1. No wonder gun ranges in China have the guns chained to the shooting benches. Do they then have possession, custody or control? -- to use the trilogy of words favored by lawyers here in America.
