Media Admits It's Biased

We couldn’t help her any more than we have, she’s got just a free ride so far from the media, we’re the biggest ones promoting her campaign, so it had better happen.

My wife who has not been a big Trump fan has become furious at how obviously biased against Trump most news channels have become, even Propaganda Broadcasting Service, which she has always been partial to for its in-depth news stories.

Even CNN is noticing the rage:
Noah Gray, a CNN producer covering the Trump campaign rally Thursday in Kissimmee, FL, uploaded this video to Twitter showing a Donald Trump rally attendee shouting at journalists covering the event. "Go home!" he said. "You are traitors! I am an American Patriot!"
When asked his name, the man replied: "I am a Patriot! And your name is 'Traitor.'"
Not even a pretense of objectivity from the Democratic Party activists with bylines.

20 Mbps

This may not be exciting to those of you with gigabit Ethernet, but my ISP now offers 20 Mbps service and for $6/month to upgrade from 10, that's a  bargain.  Pages that you used to take a couple seconds to appear are now nearly instantaneous.  I am discovering other CAT5 cables in my network however.  In addition the powerline adapters have some odd limits.  I suspect the low data rates might be because of having to go through the circuit breakers between circuits.

UPDATE: TP-Link confirms the circuit breakers are the cause.  I may have to go wireless on these or find outlets near where I want to go that are on the same circuit. I moved the wireline adapter from an outlet in the klitchen to an outlet a few feet away in the family room (on a different breaker), and download rate went from 2.3 Mbps to 8.4; still not what I should be getting but it suggests that some differences in the circuit breakers.  It may make more sense to get a Wi-Fi extender and install that in the third bedroom, which has 100 Mbps Ethernet cable running to it.  I have a somewhat older dlink wireless router whuich I might be able to plug into that cable and use for that purpose.

UPDATE 2: I scrapped the dlink wireless router because it seemed defective when really there was a bad connector in the wall which the ISP has since replaced.  Does anyone make a wi-fi extender that takes an Ethernet input?

UPDATE 3: Settled for a TP_Link wi-fi range extender.  I have 130 Mbps in the room where I will put it to reach the garage PC.

I found instructions for making a PC into a hotspot but the ancient laptop (the clunker as we call it) shuts down shortly after Windows 10 boots.  Windows 10 problem?  BIOS works without shutting down so I thought I would install Ubuntu Linux instead.  There's instructions for doing this under Linux also.  But it started shutting down under Linux as well.  Someone is probably willing to buy this HP DV5126.  Dual core, 2GB RAM, 1TB hybrid disk, LightScribe CD/DVD burner.

Cables

I have an LG gadget for accessing Netflix which has been acting strange for some time.  In the middle of the movie, it stops while trying to catch up.  Works great on a PC on the same LAN.  Being a software engineer, I assumed a memory leak in the firmware.  But it worked okay on wireless.  The problem seemed to be the wired connection.  My curiosity got the better of me, so I hooked up the PC to the Ethernet cable going to the power line adapter: 2.5 Mbps download.  The cable from adapter to LG gadget was Cat5.  Replaced it with a CAT6e cable; problem solved.  Also explains miserable data rates at the PC in garage; another CAT5 cable.

UPDATE: One of the power line adapters is running slow, the more distant one not at all.  Some more debugging required.

Your cat will hate it. You, however, will love it.

Scout found the lion mane to be very embarrassing and made several threats on my life. She looked super cute though.

Web Page Updates

The Tennessee Law Review article Dave Kopel and I wrote some years ago was in HTML.  I just scanned it to a PDF.  Be patient; as our next President (assuming not too many dead or illegal aliens vote) would say "It's HUGE!"

My scanning software could not do it all in one pass, so I bought Soda PDF 8 to edit it, and it works very well.

Why I Dare Not Buy A Second House

I might turn Socialist:
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is the proud new owner of a summer home in the Champlain Islands, Seven Days has confirmed.
The Burlington resident last week plopped down nearly $600,000 on a lakefront camp in North Hero.
Sanders’ new crib has four bedrooms and 500 feet of Lake Champlain beachfront on the east side of the island — facing Vermont, not New York. The Bern will keep his home in Burlington and use the new camp seasonally.
“We’ve traveled up to the islands many times over the years — almost always on day trips,” Sanders’ wife, Jane O’Meara Sanders, told Seven Days in a written statement. “We’ve been impressed with the North Hero community, eaten at the North Hero House and Shore Acres and have suggested them to friends who were looking for a beautiful place to stay or have dinner. St. Anne’s Shrine in Isle La Motte is my favorite church and it is nearby.”
Last Tuesday, the day of the closing, a relaxed-looking Bernie Sanders posed for a photo at Hero’s Welcome General Store on Route 2. The store, a bit south of his new abode, serves a sandwich called “Feel the Bun” in the senator’s honor. The $6.99 deli delight consists of a “HUGE” homemade roll, sliced turkey, fresh apple chutney, hot pepper relish, lettuce, tomato and provolone cheese.
